Shanghai OnStar breaks the 200,000 subscriber mark

(March 2, 2011) SHANGHAI — Shanghai OnStar Telematics more than doubled its subscriber base in the last three months to surpass 200,000, a positive sign for OnStar and the China telematics industry as well.

“This significant milestone shows that drivers in China truly value our services,” said Jon Hyde, general manager of Shanghai OnStar.  “We look forward to continuing to build on our leadership position in China by bringing new and enhanced services in the near future.”

China became the world’s largest auto market in 2010 with sales exceeding 18 million units. The demand for safety is rising along with the number of vehicles on the road. As a global telematics leader Shanghai OnStar helped contribute to road safety in China by responding to:

    • More than 1,460 Automatic Crash Response victims with immediate crash notification helping victims receive timely emergency care
    • More than 50 stolen vehicle locations allowing the local authorities to return the vehicles to their rightful owners
    • More than 37,000 remote door unlocks for vehicle owners, sparing them time and worry
    • More than 1.8 million Turn-by-Turn Navigation routes, helping drivers got to their destinations

Shanghai OnStar Telematics is integrated with all three major passenger vehicle brands under Shanghai GM: Cadillac, Buick and Chevrolet. Shanghai OnStar’s services are available to all Shanghai GM customers from Chevrolet Cruze to the Cadillac SLS. Free OnStar service is available in the first year for customers who purchase Shanghai GM vehicles with the OnStar system.
