Renault Twizy gets new window system for winter

(October 30, 2012) Drivers of the European Renault Twizy  can stay looking cool in the cold this winter thanks to a nifty new window system which has hit the UK market before the big freeze kicks in.

Road gritting teams have been put on red alert to deal with the first wave of wintry conditions after forecasters warned temperatures are likely to fall dramatically from the weekend. But, Twizy owners and future buyers will be warmed to know it takes just minutes to fit a new winter-proof accessory to Renault’s 100 per cent electric head-turner in the comfort of your own home.

The new device, which fixes onto Twizy’s gullwing doors is a smart, high-quality piece of kit that will keep the British weather out for just £295 including VAT, and make the compact two-seater even more versatile.

Renault’s total protection system comes in two parts — a rigid metal frame which attaches to the door and a flexible, transparent "window’" which fastens to the frame by means of a zip.

It needs no tools to fit, can easily be removed by the owner and requires no bodywork modification to make the futuristic-looking urban compact suitable for the conditions this winter.

An opening in the window provides access to the door handle and enables the transparent panel to be opened or closed. Two slits in the panel — one at the front and the other at the rear — ensure a sufficient flow of air to prevent the attention grabber’s interior from misting up.

As part of Renault’s ongoing attention to quality, the system has been extensively tested to ensure its resistance to UV light, corrosion and cold temperatures. This new accessory goes on sale across the Renault network at the end of November.
