Infiniti shows new Q30 compact in camouflage

(June 19, 2015) Infiniti will unveil its first-ever compact car at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt Sept. 17. The production version of this segment-spanning compact car will be revealed two years after the Infiniti Q30 Concept debuted at the 2013 Frankfurt show.

Infiniti has distributed a camouflaged photo of the compact hatch that will slot in the Infiniti lineup below the Q50.

Infiniti said it is in the final stages of preparing for the launch with dynamic testing and ultimate validation currently taking place across the UK and throughout mainland Europe. Development of the Q30 has been taking place at the company’s Engineering Centre in Cranfield, UK, since 2014.

Infiniti’s teaser image conceals the sharply creased body lines that were notable on the Q30 concept car that first appeared on stage at the 2013 Frankfurt show.

Infiniti refers to the model as an “active compact.” It will share the underpinnings of the Mercedes-Benz A-class as part of an ongoing product and technology partnership between Daimler and the Renault-Nissan Alliance. This month, Nissan began hiring additional workers to begin building the Q30 at its Sunderland assembly plant in Northern England.

The Q30 will go on sale in Europe towards the end of 2015 and should reach U.S. showrooms some time in 2016.
