GM raising price of Silverado, Sierra by $1,500

(October 14, 2013) According to reports in the Detroit News and Wall Street Journal today, General Motors is raising the sticker prices of their 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups $1,500 for all trim models.

In April, GM boosted that the base price of the Silverado regular cab would remain the same as the 2013 model, $24,585. The price hike raises the base price to $26,670 for all trucks built on or after Oct. 7. A GM spokesman said all pickups now on dealer lots will continue to have the cheaper price tags.

The new Sierra will now start at $27,170.

Jim Cain told the Detroit News that the latest price increase was part of the company's is part of a planned launch strategy. But he said much of the new cost can be covered through incentives that GM is now offering including $1,000 cash back and another $500 on some high-volume trim lines. Those offers expire Oct. 31.

The price hike announcement comes as GM nears the selldown of 2013 model pickups. Cain said only 20,000 2013 pickups are currently in inventory.
