Audi A5 gets facelift for 2013 model year

(July 14, 2011) The Audi A5 and S5 coupes and cabriolet will be freshened for 2013 with most of the changes on the exterior — the most obvious being a restyled front end with cues from the new A7 that just went on sale.

Up front, the A5's new headlights, redone LED running lights, new bumper and new fog lights are more chiseled and closely match its 2012 A6 and A7 siblings. The rear lights also have been redesigned, too, but the changes in the rear are less dramatic than those up front.

The biggest change in powertrains is that the S5 gets a new engine. Gone will be the 4.2-liter 354-horsepower V-8 that's been available since the S5's launch as a 2008 model. The new engine will be a the 333-horsepower, 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 that currently powers the A6 and A7. Performance all-wheel drive with torque vectoring will be standard.

The A5 retains the 211-horsepower, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder mated to a six-speed manual or CVT automatic transmission and available with front or all-wheel drive.

The new A5 is a highly intelligent car. Its driver assistance systems have undergone intensive further development. The range of infotainment options now includes the Bluetooth online car phone, which delivers a number of special services and connects the A5 to the Internet.

The 2013 A5 and S5 should be at dealers next summer and U.S. pricing will be announced closer to the launch date.

The new version will debut at the upcoming Frankfurt Auto Show this fall.
