(December 27, 2023) COLCHESTER, Conn. — Range anxiety — the fear that an electric vehicle (EV) couldn’t go enough miles on a charge—is a key factor that’s deterring Americans from going all-electric, according to 54 percent of adults in a 2022 national-representative survey by Consumer Reports (CR), the nonprofit research, testing, and consumer advocacy organization. CR has announced exclusive new testing results that could help allay some of that anxiety.

(December 27, 2023) Front crash prevention systems aren’t as good at preventing crashes with large trucks and motorcycles as they are crashes with cars, two new studies from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) show. Most front crash prevention systems include forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking (AEB). Forward collision warning alerts the driver when a rear-end crash is imminent, and AEB automatically slams on the brakes if the driver fails to respond in time.

Gas prices to rise slightly before Christmas holiday, narrowly missing $2.99

(December 23, 2023) DALLAS — As millions of Americans hit the road for the Christmas holiday, many will reap the gift of lower gas prices, with nearly 100,000 stations offering gasoline at $2.99 or less. The national average price of gas is projected to be $3.09 on Christmas Day according to GasBuddy, a  fuel savings platform. Prices over the holiday weekend will have dropped nearly 80¢ per gallon compared to what they were paying earlier this fall, when the national average reached $3.85 per gallon.

Automakers fulfill autobrake pledge for light-duty vehicles

(December 23, 2023) All 20 participating automakers have fulfilled a voluntary pledge to equip nearly all the light vehicles they produce for the U.S. market with automatic emergency braking (AEB). Five new manufacturers installed AEB on more than 95 percent of the light vehicles they produced between Sept. 1, 2022, and Aug. 31, 2023, to meet the deadline set in the agreement, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

It may be a wrap for falling gas prices

(December 22, 2023) WASHINGTON, D.C. — The national average for a gallon of gas fell to a 2023 low of $3.06 on Dec. 18, only to rebound six cents to $3.12. This marks the first weekly increase since September.
