(July 29, 2022) The CX-50 tested here is an all-new model for the 2023 Mazda brand in the hotly contested and crowded compact crossover utility vehicle segment. Competitors include such rivals as the Toyota RAV4, Hyundai Tucson, Nissan Rogue and others. The CX-50 is based on same platform as the smaller subcompact CX-30 and Mazda3. It’s also longer and wider than the CX-5 with more ground clearance yet a lower roof height and profile.

Lower demand for gas equals steadily falling pump prices

(July 26, 2022) WASHINGTON, D.C. (July 25, 2022)—Lackluster demand for gas and lower oil prices led to pump prices falling again, down 17 cents since last week to $4.35. The steady decline is due to low domestic demand for gasoline and oil prices that remain in the mid-$90s per barrel. The price of gas has now fallen every day since hitting a record $5.01 on June 14.

IIHS urges quick adoption of speed limiter requirement for trucks

(July 26, 2022) The federal government should expedite plans to require speed limiters on large trucks and extend the requirement to medium-duty trucks, IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) urged in a recent regulatory comment earlier this month.

With a 201-horsepower electric motor replacing the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder that serves as the base engine for gas-powered Konas, the 2022 Kona Electric offers up to 258 miles of all-electric driving range though at a significant increase in initial cost.

For example, United Kingdom motorists have forked out an additional £1.13 billion pounds during the last 12 months because of the rising cost of gas and diesel. Used car platform CarGurus has looked at the average monthly cost of diesel and gas prices from June 2021 to June 2022 based on the average monthly mileage and average mpg of petrol and diesel cars in the UK.
