Fiat Chrysler seeks merger with Renault to weather coming storm

(May 30, 2019) While many of us were grilling hotdogs and enjoying the Memorial Day holiday, Fiat Chrysler Automobile’s board was submitting a proposal for merger with the French automaker, Renault.  Renault’s board is considering the details within and will respond by next week.  If accepted, the combined automaker would become the third largest in the world, behind Volkswagen and Toyota, but ahead of General Motors and Hyundai/Kia.

National gas price average drops by more than a nickel since May 1

(May 29, 2019) For the 37.6 million Americans who hit the road this past Memorial Day weekend, the vast majority found savings at the pump compared to last year’s holiday. Today, 42 states and Washington, D.C. have gas price averages that are less expensive year-over-year, with Floridians (-31 cents) seeing the largest yearly change. Motorists in West Coast states are the exception, paying nearly double-digits more than last May to fill up, according to statistics compiled by AAA.

Edmunds unveils its 'Best Family Cars of 2019'

Mercedes-AMG GT C Roadster wins top honors at convertible competition

(May 28, 2019) KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. — Sporting a 550-horsepower biturbo V8 engine and a top that opens or closes at speeds up to 31 mph, the 2019 Mercedes-AMG GT C Roadster earned top honors last week at the annual Topless in Miami Presented by Haartz convertible competition conducted by the Southern Automotive Media Association (SAMA).

It is the third time in nine years that a Mercedes-Benz model has earned top honors in the annual competition, joining the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster (2012) and Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG (2016).

(May 23, 2019) SANTA MONICA, Calif. — Shoppers in the market for a new car could be in store for significant savings this Memorial Day weekend as dealers aim to move mounting inventory off their lots, according to the car shopping experts at Edmunds. New vehicle inventory hit 4.06 million units in April, marking the third month in a row this year that the industry saw inventory levels above 4 million.

Additionally, the average days to turn (DTT) for new vehicles increased to 75 days for the industry in April, a 6% jump compared to last year.

Nissan-commissioned study finds young buyers love sedans

(May 23, 2019) NASHVILLE, Tenn. —  Recent research reveals that the youngest generations of car buyers – millennials and Generation Z – may have their sights set on sedans. According to a survey of American car owners commissioned by Nissan, desire for sedans remains strong.

Among overall respondents who don't currently own a sedan, 78% would consider buying one, and younger respondents reported an even higher affinity for the body style.
