Hyundai Sonata tops Cars.com's list of 'Most Affordable Midsize Sedans'

(June 3, 2015) CHICAGO — Cars.com has listed the most affordable midsize sedans currently for sale. The list combines the cost to purchase the car and factors in five years of fuel costs as well as each car's residual value after five years.

The Hyundai Sonata SE was named most affordable taking into account purchase price, five-year fuel cost, and five-year residual value coming in at under $20,000.

To make the list, each car had to come with the bare-minimum features that today's shoppers expect including automatic transmission, power driver's seat, rearview camera, Bluetooth and USB.

"Midsize sedans continue to be some of the most popular cars with consumers," said Dave Thomas, Cars.com managing editor. "This is a segment with a lot of competitive options, most of which come with all of the creature comforts car shoppers expect. We know that most consumers focus on price when shopping for a car, so we've taken a look at long-term cost instead of simply the cost of each car to help shoppers understand which one will save them the most money over time."

The top 10 most affordable midsize sedans according to Cars.com editors are:

"Not only is the Sonata the most affordable in its class, but it is also one of the best," said Thomas. "The Sonata was recently named the winner of the Cars.com Midsize Sedan Challenge which pitted it against other sedans in the segment in a series of intensive tests."
