Ducati recalling model year 2011 Diavel motorcycles

(August 18, 2011) Ducati is recalling certain model year 2011 Diavel motorcycles because of a problem with the bikes’ side stands that could result in the stands bending or breaking, and the bikes falling over after being parked. The recall includes 919 motorcycles.

In a document filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration the company said the affected motorcycles were built from May 18, 2010, through June 13, 2011.

On these bikes, the side stand was manufactured with “insufficient material in the pivot area,” Ducati said. As a result, the weak point could cause a bend or break near the pivot. If that happens and the parked bike tips over, it could injure the rider or bystanders.

Under the recall Ducati will notify owners, and dealers will replace the side stand and pivot bolt free of charge. The recall is expected to begin this month. Owners can contact Ducati at 800-231-6696 or at www.ducati.com.

Ducati has previously recalled Diavels for loose parts and problems with electronic keys. Driver’s Seat reviewed the bike in June.
