TWR opens order book for debut car — The V12 Super-GT ‘Supercat’

(April 30, 2024) NEWBURY, UK — The order book for TWR’s debut limited production performance car is now open. This coincides with the unveiling of the exterior design ahead of a full dynamic debut in Summer 2024. The TWR Supercat is a supercharged V12-powered Super-GT boasting more than 600 BHP and built from the legendary Jaguar XJS platform. It is the first of a new generation of cars from one of the most storied and celebrated names in motorsport and performance cars.

New Mercedes-AMG CLE Coupe produces 443 horsepower

(April 30, 2024) Mercedes-AMG is sharpening its product portfolio with the new 2024 AMG CLE 53 Coupe. Arriving at U.S. dealerships this summer, the sporty two-door coupe combines the best of two worlds — the agility and sportiness of the AMG C-Class with the elegance of the AMG E-Class. The AMG-enhanced 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine with turbocharging via an exhaust gas turbocharger and an electric auxiliary compressor has been thoroughly modified and now produces 443 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque (443 lb-ft for 10 seconds with overboost).

Polestar, StoreDot charge Polestar 5 prototype from 10-80% in 10 minutes

(April 30, 2024) GOTHENBURG, Sweden — Polestar and fast-charging battery pioneer StoreDot have successfully demonstrated the implementation of StoreDot’s Extreme Fast Charging (XFC) technology in a car for the first time, charging a Polestar 5 prototype from 10-80% in just 10 minutes. The fully drivable verification prototype saw a consistent charge rate starting at 310 kW and rising to a peak in excess of 370 kW at the end of charging.

Honda to invest $11 billion to build EV supply chain in Canada

(April 29, 2024) Honda has announced that it plans to build a comprehensive EV value chain in Canada with an approximate investment of $11 billion including investment by joint venture partners, to strengthen its EV supply system and capability to prepare for a future increase in EV demand in North America. Honda has begun evaluating the requirements to build an innovative and environmentally responsible Honda EV plant and a stand-alone Honda EV battery plant in Alliston, Ontario.

New gas-powered Chevy Equinox to start under $30,000

(April 29, 2024) Chevrolet said last week that its redesigned gasoline-powered Equinox compact crossover will start below $30,000 when it goes on sale this year. The 2025 Equinox LT trim level starts at $29,995 with shipping for front-wheel drive and $31,995 for all-wheel drive. The outgoing Equinox starts at $27,995 for the LS, which has been discontinued with the redesign, and $30,890 for the entry-level LT model.

2024 Nissan Z NISMO — Return of the samurai

(April 28, 2024) It was some 20 years ago when Nissan invited me (and many, many others) to its Nissan 360 press event, which brought together — in and around San Francisco — Nissan’s global fleet for, if you will, a fleet meet-and-greet. There were dozens of highlights, including the chance to both see and drive many of the Nissan models not available in these United States. But my personal best was driving a NISMO-modified 350Z on a winding route into Northern California’s Marin County.
