Ford invests $1 billion for all-new Ranger build in South Africa



(February 3, 2021) PRETORIA, South Africa — Ford has announced an investment of $1.05 billion in its South African manufacturing operations to support expanded production of the all-new Ranger pickup truck, starting in 2022. It marks the biggest investment in Ford’s 97-year history in South Africa. It also represents one of the largest-ever investments in the South African automotive industry, boosting Ford’s production capability and creating new jobs.

Merchants Fleet is slated to be BrightDrop’s second major customer



(February 3, 2021) DETROIT – Merchants Fleet, the nation’s fastest-growing fleet management company, has announced its plans to further electrify its portfolio with BrightDrop, the new business backed by General Motors, offering electric first-to-last-mile products and software services. Merchants Fleet is working with BrightDrop to procure 12,600 BrightDrop EV600s, an all-new, electric light commercial vehicle purpose-built for the delivery of goods and services over long ranges.

Subaru of America reports best-ever January sales; 46,400 vehicles sold



(February 3, 2021) Subaru of America has apparently put the pandemic behind it reporting 46,400 vehicle sales for January, a 0.25 percent increase compared to January 2020, and the best January in the history of the company. “We are proud to report that Subaru of America will start calendar year 2021 with an all-time January sales record, an accomplishment we could not have achieved without our dedicated retailers,” said Thomas J. Doll, president and CEO.

BMW Group sources aluminum produced using solar energy



(February 2, 2021) MUNICH, Germany — The BMW Group will begin sourcing aluminum produced using solar electricity with immediate effect. This marks an important milestone on the road to the company’s goal of lowering CO2 emissions in its supplier network by 20% by 2030. Since producing aluminum is highly energy-intensive, the use of green power — such as solar electricity — offers considerable potential for reducing CO2 emissions. That is why the BMW Group also plans to source aluminum produced with green power in the long term – enabling it to avoid approx. 2.5 million tonnes of CO2 emissions over the next 10 years.

Karma Automotive, Blue World Technologies collaborate on fuel cell system
