Early '60s Buick Skylark



General Motors introduced three new compact cars in 1961 — the Buick Special, Pontiac Tempest and Oldsmobile F-85. In the middle of the 1961 model year, the Buick Skylark — a luxury trim of the Special — debuted. There were two engines available — a 3.2-liter V-6 or a 155-horsepower 3.5-liter V-8. The first generation was built through the 1963 model year. This example was found deteriorating along Route 66 in Seligman, Ariz.

GM recalling 3.46 million pickups and SUVs over braking issue

(September 12, 2019) DETROIT — General Motors said it was recalling 3.46 million U.S. pickup trucks and SUVs to address a vacuum pump issue that could make braking more difficult and that has been linked to 113 accidents and 13 injuries.

The recall covers certain Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Silverado, Chevrolet Suburban, Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Sierra, and GMC Yukon vehicles from the 2014-18 model years.

Electrify America sponsoring ride/drive events across U.S.

Overall sales totals for the event reached $23.5 million as a nearly 70% sell-through rate was achieved with just over 1,000 classic and collector cars crossing the auction block.

Land Rover reveals New Defender in Frankfurt

(September 11, 2019) FRANKFURT, Germany — Land Rover has revealed the New Defender with a dramatic live-action demonstration of its capability at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The new 4x4 made its first appearance by descending an extreme 42-degree incline at the show — a feat broadcast live to a global audience of eager fans. Land Rover says the New Defender is the most capable and durable Land Rover vehicle ever made and its debut in Frankfurt marked the end of its first adventure, to the Valley of the Castles in the Charyn Canyon, Kazakhstan — one of the most land-locked places on earth.

Honda celebrates 40 years of manufacturing in America

(September 11, 2019) MARYSVILLE, Ohio — Honda associates this week are celebrating the 40th anniversary of the historic start of production at Honda of America Manufacturing in Marysville, Ohio, in 1979, when the first 64 associates began producing the Elsinore CR 250 motorcycle, which began the rapid growth of Honda in America.   

Ram 1500 first full-size pickup to earn IIHS Top Safety Pick+

(September 11, 2019) AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — The Ram 1500 Crew Cab full-size pickup has been named a Top Safety Pick+ for 2019, the highest rating given by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

The rating applies to 2020 Ram 1500 pickups, and 2019 trucks produced after May of this year, when equipped with adaptive LED projector headlamps that have high-beam assist and Ram’s Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) technology, Forward Collision Mitigation.

While the 2019 Toyota Sienna minivan sounds like a bit of overkill for just two people, it proved to be comfortable and relatively fuel efficient transportation.

Porsche announces 2020 911 Carrera 4 and 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet

(September 10, 2019) ATLANTA — Following the introduction of the standard 911 Carrera and 911 Carrera Cabriolet, Porsche is now expanding the line-up further with the all-wheel drive 911 Carrera 4 and 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet models.

Like the 2020 911 Carrera models, the new 911 Carrera 4 and 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet are powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-liter flat six engine fitted with model-specific turbochargers, developing 379 horsepower at 6,500 rpm (nine horsepower more than the previous 911 Carrera 4 models) and 331 lb.-ft. of torque from 1,950 to 5,000 rpm.
