2018 Honda Odyssey: Can magic slide seats outdo Chrysler’s stow and go?

(January 22, 2017) From the B-pillar forward, the new Odyssey shares its underbody with the Pilot crossover. From there back, however, it’s a unique vehicle. Ultra-high-strength steel, aluminum and magnesium are used to reduce weight (up to 96 pounds, depending on trim level) and increase torsional rigidity 44%. In addition, the 280 horsepower direct-injected 3.5-liter V6 has 32 more horsepower.

After six years the Lexus CT 200h purpose-built hybrid has less than 90,000 sales to its credit. But the niche vehicle soldiers on for a seventh year with a 2017 version offering luxury buyers a good looking compact hatchback rated at 42 miles per gallon in combined city and highway driving. Buyers find that the CT 200h's combination of attractive styling that has worn well over the years and upscale amenities is appealing, while its hatchback body style can accommodate a wide variety of cargo.

Mecum exceeds $86 million at Kissimmee auction

(January 21, 2017) Mecum Kissimmee 2017, the world’s largest collector-car auction held Jan. 6-15, at Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee, Fla., achieved more than $86 million in total sales. Of the nearly 2,700 vehicles to cross the auction block throughout the 10-day auction, a total of 1,981 vehicles were sold, accounting for a 75-percent sell-through rate, an astonishing accomplishment for a reserve-based auction platform.

GM resolves SEC investigation into ignition switch problem

(January 20, 2017) DETROIT — General Motors has announced that it has resolved a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission investigation arising from the company’s 2014 ignition switch recalls by consenting to an administrative SEC Cease and Desist Order, without admitting or denying any wrongdoing.

The SEC settlement does not call into question any of GM’s current or prior financial statements or its disclosures.  Also, no material weakness or significant deficiency was found by the SEC.

Mecum to debut Los Angeles collector-car auction

Toyota's North American production exceeds 2 million again in 2016

(January 20, 2017) ERLANGER, Ky. — In 2016, Toyota achieved another record year of North American vehicle production with 2,124,608 vehicles built at its North American vehicle assembly plants. Production volume was up 4.4 percent over the previous year total of 2,035,028 vehicles.
 
Toyota’s total vehicle production in North America since 1986 has reached more than 30 million. Key drivers of this year’s increased production include low fuel prices, continued stability in the overall economy and strong customer demand for trucks and SUVs.
