BMW breaks ground on new port facility in Galveston, Texas

(April 22, 2015) WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J. — The BMW Group broke ground Tuesday at the future site of a new Vehicle Distribution Center at the Port of Galveston. BMW is expanding its vehicle distribution network to southeastern Texas to better serve the 45 BMW and MINI dealers within four states — Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Arkansas — that make up a part of the Southern Region.

GM sells 2.4 million vehicles around the world in first quarter

(April 22, 2015) DETROIT – General Motors sold 2.4 million vehicles globally in the first quarter of 2015, up 2 percent compared to a year ago. Sales in China increased 9 percent and deliveries in North America were up 6 percent. Opel/Vauxhall increased its sales by 3 percent in Europe.

“The momentum our brands are building in China, the U.S. and Western Europe more than offset difficult conditions in some other large markets like Russia and Brazil,” said GM CEO Mary Barra.

Harley-Davidson reports improved net income over last year

(April 22, 2015) MILWAUKEE — Harley-Davidson first-quarter 2015 diluted earnings per share increased 5 percent to $1.27 compared to diluted EPS of $1.21 in the year-ago period. Net income was $269.9 million on consolidated revenue of $1.67 billion compared to net income of $265.9 million on consolidated revenue of $1.73 billion in last year's first quarter.

Revenue in this year's first quarter was down from the year-ago period primarily on unfavorable foreign currency exchange and slightly lower motorcycle shipments.

Nissan begins production of eighth-generation Maxima

(April 21, 2015) NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Nissan's Smyrna Vehicle Assembly Plant continues its reign as the top-producing automotive plant in North America production for the all-new 2016 Nissan Maxima started today.

"When Nissan came to Tennessee more than 30 years ago, there were almost no auto jobs in the state," said Sen. Lamar Alexander. "Three decades later, about one-third of our manufacturing jobs are auto related, auto suppliers have located in 80 counties, and our family incomes are higher. I want to thank Nissan for providing opportunities for thousands of talented Tennesseans."

Refreshed 2016 Lexus ES unveiled at Shanghai Auto Show

Chevrolet says Colorado spent least time on dealer lots in first quarter

(April 21, 2015) DETROIT – Chevrolet says its new Colorado is reinvigorating the midsize truck market, leading pickups of all sizes in spending the least amount of time on dealer lots in the first quarter while winning customers from other brands. Customers purchased 19,126 Colorados from January to March, when General Motors’ Wentzville, Mo., assembly plant added a third shift to keep up with demand.
