Car club announces countdown on Joe Strummer's 1963 Thunderbird

(August 21, 2014) LOS ANGELES — Less than 24 hours remain to claim Clash vocalist Joe Strummer's 1963 Chalfont Blue Ford Thunderbird on eBay. Bidding on the original California double black-plate Bullet body style T-Bird is currently at $30,600. Originally purchased by Strummer in 1987 for $4,200, the vehicle has remained in good condition, having spent several years in a climate controlled garage.

New 8-speed automatic makes Corvette faster, more efficient

(August 20, 2014) DETROIT — The all-new, paddle-shift eight-speed automatic transmission makes the 2015 Corvette Stingray faster and more fuel efficient, with 0-60 acceleration of only 3.7 seconds and an EPA-estimated 29 mpg on the highway.

PGA Tour player Hunter Mahan receives BMW i3 for 2013 hole-in-one

(August 20, 2014) PGA Tour Player Hunter Mahan was presented with his all-electric BMW i3 this week for scoring a hole-in-one on the 17th hole during the 2013 BMW Championship at Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest, Ill.  In addition to receiving the BMW i3, Mahan met Melyzjah Smith, the 2013 BMW Hole-in-One Scholar, who was awarded a full, four-year tuition and housing grant as a result of Mahan’s hole-in-one.

Abarth track experience revs up for another round

GM Renaissance Center now composts food scraps

(August 18, 2014) DETROIT — General Motors’ Global Headquarters, a multi-office tower complex that sends no waste to landfills, now composts food preparation scraps from its various Renaissance Center restaurant kitchens for use in urban farming initiatives throughout the city.

Local composting startup Detroit Dirt collects coffee grounds and fruit and vegetable pieces and mixes them with herbivore manure, some of which ends up in a rooftop garden at the complex.
