Volkswagen XL1 hybrid wins design award category

(April 24, 2014) LONDON — The Volkswagen XL1, the world’s most fuel-efficient hybrid car, has been named the winner of the Transport category in the annual Designs of the Year Awards. The car is one of 76 designs in seven categories which are on display at the Design Museum in London until Aug. 25

The innovative XL1 will now go on to compete for the Design of the Year 2014 award against the winners of the other categories — Architecture, Digital, Fashion, Furniture, Graphic, Product — with the overall winner announced at an event on June 30.

Honda parts purchasing surpasses $300 billion in North America

(April 24, 2014) TORONTO — Honda honored more than 100 automotive parts suppliers in North America for outstanding performance in 2013 at its 30th Supplier Conference last week, and announced that Honda has purchased more than $300 billion in parts and materials from its more than 650 suppliers in North America during the 35 years since Honda began building products in the region.

Spring Hill produces 4 millionth Ecotec engine for GM

(April 24, 2014) SPRING HILL, Tenn. — General Motors Spring Hill powertrain plant this week produced its 4-millionth Ecotec engine just two years after the 3-millionth engine was assembled.

“GM’s line of Ecotec engines continue to win awards and recognition from critics and consumers alike for their fuel efficiency and power,” said GM Spring Hill Complex Manager Ken Knight. “These engines represent the best of the best available in today’s market, and we’re proud to produce them in Tennessee.”

I've always looked at it and the other mid-size Japanese super star Toyota Camry as good, dependable cars that are somewhere south of exciting. Owners love them, but aren't usually in love with them. I like them for all the reasons their owners love them, but I've never been passionate about either one. (Insert yawn here.)
