Toyota regains global sales lead in 2012

(January 28, 2013) Toyota outsold General Motors and Volkswagen last year to regain the global sales lead from GM after recovering from natural disasters and record recalls that tarnished its reputation for quality.

Worldwide sales at Toyota, including deliveries from its subsidiaries, rose 23 percent to a record 9.75 million units in 2012, according to a statement from the carmaker. That compares with the 9.29 million units sold by GM and 9.07 million at Volkswagen.

General Motors to add 2,630 jobs at Brazil plants

(January 28, 2013) A booming market in Brazil has led General Motors to a decision to add a third shift at the Gravataí Industrial Complex, creating 1,450 new jobs at the assembly plant and another 1,000 at supplier plants located at the facility in the South of Brazil. Another 180 jobs will be created in the new powertrain plant in Joinville. Gravatai is home to the Chevrolet Celta and Onix small cars.

Volkswagen returns to Super Bowl with 'Get in Get Happy'

Lexus Design Award competition draws strong interest

(January 27, 2013) The first Lexus Design Award has attracted strong interest from around the world, with more than 2,100 initial registrations leading to 1,243 projects being submitted by the closing date for entries. These were mainly from product design (50 per cent) and architecture (30 per cent), with the balance from diverse fields including graphic design, interior design, fashion, film and TV.

Kia Picanto city car now pretty in pink

(January 27, 2013) The pocket-sized Kia Picanto, sold worldwide except North America and Australia, is now available in pink. Adding a splash of "girly color" to the Picanto line up "Fuchsia Blush" is available on the 5-door model.

If pink isn’t your color then the new Picanto "White" is now available on the three-door model. This high-tech addition to the Picanto three-door range, replaces top-spec ‘Halo’ and ‘Equinox’ models.

Ford Focus top-selling domestically produced vehicle in China in 2012

(January 26, 2013) SHANGHAI, China — Ford continues Go Further in China as independent industry sales data show the Ford Focus was the country’s best-selling nameplate in 2012. For the full year, sales of the Focus totaled 296,360 vehicles, more than any other domestically manufactured passenger car, according to industry consultancy IHS Automotive.
 

Zurich, Switzerland, begins operating taxi fleet with Nissan Leaf

Next-generation VW Golf will be manufactured in Puebla, Mexico, for U.S.

(January 26, 2013) HERNDON, Va. — Volkswagen announced Friday that it will begin to produce the next-generation Golf at its Volkswagen de México manufacturing facility in Puebla, Mexico.  Production of the seventh-generation Golf will commence at the company’s plant in Mexico in the first quarter of 2014.
