Jaguar C-X16 named top design concept car

(October 15, 2012) LONDON — The Jaguar C-X16 concept car, the show-stopping inspiration for the recently revealed F-TYPE, has won Design Concept Car of the Year at the 2012 Scottish Car of the Year Awards.

Unveiled at the Frankfurt show in September 2011, the C-X16 two-seater concept has paved the way for the production F-TYPE model, a two-seater, convertible sports car that is a continuation of a sporting bloodline stretching back more than 75 years.

Vauxhall Ampera continues to win awards

(October 15, 2012) LONDON  — Vauxhall’s Ampera extended range electric vehicle — the European version of the Chevrolet Volt —  was honored with the Industry Innovation prize at the 2012 GreenFleet awards.

This caps a memorable week for the pioneering Ampera, winning a hat trick of top gongs, also including the electric honor at the Scottish Car of the Year awards and the green car category at the British Insurance Security Awards.

Survey reveals favorite James Bond car of all time

(October 15, 2012) LOS ANGELES — A new Facebook survey from Total Car Score finds that the Aston Martin DB5 from the 1964 James Bond film Goldfinger is the favorite Bond car of all time. In a Facebook poll of more than 900 participants from across the United States, people selected the Aston Martin DB5 from a list of 10 classic and modern Bond cars that span the franchise's history, from 1962's Dr. No to 2008's Quantum of Solace.

GM opens new IT Innovation Center in Michigan

(October 15, 2012) DETROIT — General Motors is opening an Information Technology Innovation Center in Warren, Mich., and expects to hire up to 1,500 high-tech employees over the next several years to support the company’s new approach to IT services.

The GM Michigan Innovation Center is the second of four planned Innovation Centers in the United States. GM last month announced the opening of the first facility in Austin, Texas, where 500 new IT jobs will be created.

Honda hybrid vehicle sales hit one million worldwide

(October 15, 2012) TOKYO — Honda announced that cumulative worldwide sales of its hybrid vehicles surpassed one million units as of the end of September 2012. This milestone was reached 12 years and 11 months after the start of sales of the first generation Honda Insight in Japan on November 1999, then rated as the world's most fuel efficient vehicle among all mass-production gasoline-powered vehicles.

Fiat 500 is ten millionth vehicle from two Polish plants

(October 14, 2012) POLAND — Last week the ten millionth vehicle produced in the 41-year history of the two Fiat industrial sites in Poland, the former FSM (Fabryka Samochodów Małolitrażowych) factory in Bielsko-Biała (1971) and the Fiat Auto Poland factory in Tychy (1975), came off the assembly lines.

The vehicle, a Fiat 500C Lounge painted Corsa Red and fitted with a 1.2 gas engine, is earmarked for the German market.

Europe-only Volvo V40 wins Scottish award

Chrysler reveals custom vehicles headed for SEMA show

Hertz: No recalled Toyota vehicles in fleet

(October 13, 2012) ARK RIDGE, N.J. — Hertz today announced that its U.S. car rental fleet does not include any of the Toyota vehicles subject to the recently announced safety recall related to power-window switches. 

The company said its corporate rental fleet vehicles are currently from the 2011, 2012, and 2013 model years. All of the recalled vehicles are from model years prior to 2010.
