Fire that destroyed Fisker Karma in Texas investigated

(May 21, 2012) U.S. auto-safety regulators are investigating a Texas garage fire that destroyed a Fisker Karma, a $103,000 plug-in electric vehicle, Bloomberg News reports.

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration sent investigators to help probe what caused the fire in Sugar Land, Texas, that Fisker learned of May 3.

(May 20, 2012) VIENNA — A special car to befit a special occasion — Franca Sozzani, chief editor of Italian Vogue, has designed and presented her very own Mini model exclusively to mark the 20th anniversary of Life Ball, the charity event of AIDS LIFE.

The model in question is a Mini Roadster, the first open-top two-seater in the brand’s history. The one-off creation, which went under the auctioneer’s hammer at the AIDS Solidarity Gala and raised a donation of 54,000 euros for HIV projects.

Chrysler recalling 2010 Jeep Wranglers for fire danger

(May 19, 2012) The Detroit News today reports that Chrysler is recalling nearly 87,000 Jeep Wranglers in the U.S., Canada and elsewhere due to a risk of fires. The recall affects only Wranglers from the 2010 model year that have automatic transmissions and were built before July 14, 2010, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in documents posted Saturday on its website.

Toyota to increase V6 engine production in Alabama

(May 18, 2012) ERLANGER, Ky.  — Toyota announced today it will expand its Huntsville, Ala., engine facility to increase North American production of V6 engines. The approximately $80 million investment will bring total plant investment to more than $700 million. Approximately 125 new jobs will be created, increasing employment nearly 10 percent to 1,150.
