Honda unveils small electric sports concept in Tokyo

(November 30, 2011) TOKYO, Japan — The world premiere of the Honda EV-STER, the next-generation electric small sports concept model, occurred today at the 42nd Tokyo Motor Show.

Featuring an innovative styling design and excellent environmental performance, the EV-STER, an electric rear-wheel-drive two-seater convertible sports car, will propose a new way to enjoy a sports type model which is unique to the electromotive mobility.

GM moves quickly to head off public relations problems in battery fires

(November 30, 2011) DETROIT — General Motors is moving quickly to head off potential public relations problems connected to the Chevrolet Volt's lithium-ion batteries, which have come under scrutiny by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

General Motors announced Monday initiatives for customer satisfaction and battery safety research to ensure ongoing confidence in the Chevrolet Volt extended-range electric vehicle. One of the initiatives is the offer of a loaner car to any concerned buyer.

Subaru unveils 2013 BRZ sports car

Toyota's new GT 86 sports car debuts at Tokyo Motor Show

(November 29, 2011) The anticipation is over. Toyota’s new GT 86 sports car makes its world debut at the Tokyo motor show Wednesday. The compact 2+2 model, one of the most keenly awaited new cars of the coming year, will go on sale in the UK in June 2012.

It will be badged as the 2013 Scion FR-S in the United States. And it will also live as the Subaru BRZ. It has been displayed in concept form over the past couple of years as the FT-86.

Government opens investigation into Chevy Volt battery fires

(November 28, 2011) The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating fires involving the lithium-ion batteries in General Motors' Chevrolet Volt after another fire last week.

One Volt battery pack that was being closely monitored following a government crash test caught fire Thursday, the NHTSA said in a statement Friday. Another recently crash-tested battery emitted smoke and sparks, the statement said.

Next-generation GM mobility vehicle to be displayed at Tokyo show

(November 28, 2011) TOKYO — General Motors Japan Ltd. is displaying the next-generation Chevrolet EN-V concept vehicle at the Tokyo Motor Show’s “Smart Mobility City 2011” from Wednesday through Dec.11. It is the first Asian showing of the concept under the Chevrolet brand.

The two-seat EN-V made its global debut last year at World Expo 2010 Shanghai. EN-V stands for “Electric Networked-Vehicle.”

Ford to commercialize new method of attaching windshields

(November 28, 2011) DEARBORN, Mich. — Ford wants to innovate the way vehicle windshields are installed through a new patented process that makes the attachment less costly, simpler and more eco-conscious than current practices.
 
One patent covers cleaning and activating the edge of the windshield glass in less than 10 seconds. A second Ford patent covers the application of a plasma-reacted nano-coating that modifies the surface for bonding of the adhesive that holds the windshield in place. The entire patented process takes less than one minute.

Seat fabric in electric Ford Focus made of recycled plastic bottles

(November 26, 2011) NEW YORK -- Sitting on empty plastic bottles while driving or riding in a car would be less than ideal. That’s not the case when it comes to the all-new Ford Focus Electric, as it features seat fabric made of recycled material that includes the equivalent of more than 20 plastic bottles per car.

The fiber – called REPREVE – is made from a hybrid blend of recycled materials and manufactured by Unifi, Inc., a global leader in sustainable textile solutions.

Chevy Volt to be sold in eight Chinese cities — for $75,533

(November 26, 2011) The Chevrolet Volt electric car will go on sale at 13 Shanghai GM Chevrolet dealerships in eight Chinese cities -- for a whopping $75,533.

The announcement was made this week as part of General Motors’ participation in Auto Guangzhou 2011. Two of GM’s joint ventures, Shanghai GM and SAIC-GM-Wuling, are displaying more than 30 vehicles from the Buick, Chevrolet, Cadillac and Baojun brands.
