Nissan celebrates 100,000th Micra in India

(June 17, 2011) Employees at the Renault Nissan Alliance plant in Chennai, India, are celebrated Thursday after producing their 100,000th Micra in just over a year.

The first Micra compact hatchback rolled off the production line in May 2010. Since then the workforce has expanded to nearly 4,000 (from an original 1,500) to meet demand from within India and across the world.

Demand for four-cylinder engines drives new investment

(June 17, 2011) DETROIT — Additional need for Ecotec four-cylinder engines used in Chevrolet’s fuel-efficient cars and crossovers, including the all-new 2013 Malibu, is driving $65 million in new investment at plants in New York and Tennessee that will create or retain 163 jobs.

In Tonawanda, N.Y., additional capacity is being added for engines used in the Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain crossovers that achieve 32 mpg on the highway. GM is investing $33 million that will create or retain 100 jobs.

Virginia Tech wins EcoCAR competition with Extended-Range Electric Vehicle

Chrysler recalling 11,351 vehicles over steering column issue

(June 17, 2011) Chrysler is recalling 11,351 vehicles built since April because of defective steering columns that could injure drivers during a front-end crash.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Chrysler vehicles affected include: 2011 versions of the Jeep Wrangler, Liberty, Compass and Patriot; the Dodge Journey, Avenger, Nitro, Caliber and Grand Caravan, and the Chrysler Town & Country and 200 sedan and convertible.

Chevrolet announces Sonic will start at $14,495

(June 17, 2011) DETROIT —Chevrolet announced today that the sub-compact 2012 Sonic, which replaces the Aveo in the Chevy lineup, will start at $14,495 including destination.

Chevrolet says that the Sonic comes with the most standard safety equipment in the sub-compact class, including 10 air bags. Air conditioning, power door locks, remote keyless entry and 15-inch alloy wheels also are standard.

Toyota expects to reach 100 percent production by September

(June 16, 2011) ERLANGER, Ky.  — North American vehicle production levels are expected to return to 100 percent in September, Toyota said today. Production is recovering earlier than originally anticipated following the March 11 earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

Buick Regal GS delivers 270 HP from 2.0-liter engine
