Honda powers entire starting field for Indy 500

Nissan, Chrysler, GM vehicles face new safety investigations

(May 28, 2011) The government has opened safety investigations into consumer complaints over more than 700,000 vehicles made by Nissan, Chrysler and General Motors, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Friday.

A preliminary investigation is the first step in a process that could lead to a recall if regulators determine that a safety issue needs to be addressed by a manufacturer.

Volvo to hire 600 workers as it ramps up production

(May 28, 2011) Volvo Cars says it is going to hire 600 workers at its plants in Sweden and Belgium as it ramps up production of some of its latest car models thanks to strong demand.

Friday's announcement comes after Volvo earlier this year said it would recruit another 1,200 workers.

Saab resumes production after being off line since April 5

(May 27, 2011) TROLLHATTAN, Sweden — Saab Automobile today restarted assembling cars at its production facility in Trollhättan. A first batch of around 100 cars is planned for this first day of production since it closed up shop on April 5.

Saab was pushed to the brink of collapse as it ran out of cash to pay suppliers, halting production on April 5 and leaving Dutch owner Spyker Cars scrambling to line up new financing.

Honda says production should reach 100 percent in August with the exception of Civic

(May 26, 2011) TORRANCE, Calif. — Honda today announced plans for the accelerated recovery of auto production in North America following the March 11 earthquake and tsunami in Japan with full production expected by August. The only exception is the 2012 Civic.
