Volvo wants to double global sales to 800,000 in 10 years

(February 25, 2011) Volvo Cars plans to invest as much as $11 billion worldwide over the next five years to tap rising demand in markets including China.

Volvo, the Swedish automaker acquired by China's Zhejiang Geely Holding Group,  is also working to win government orders and is considering making cars in China for export, CEO Stefan Jacoby said Friday in an interview in Beijing, Bloomberg News reported.

Chevy Cruze hatchback to be unveiled in Geneva

Toyota to recall over 2 million vehicles over floor mat concerns

(February 24, 2011) Toyota said today it will recall 2.17 million Toyota and Lexus vehicles in the United States to inspect and repair accelerator pedals that may get trapped in floor mats or carpeting.

The automaker said more than half of the recalled vehicles — 1.54 million units — are being added to a giant 2009 recall to inspect and repair accelerator pedals that may get trapped in floor mats.

Spyker selling sports car business to concentrate on Saab brand

(February 24, 2011) Spyker Cars said today it is negotiating to sell its sports car business to a company controlled by Russian billionaire Vladimir Antonov.

Spyker, which bought Saab from General Motors a year ago, said it has signed a memorandum of understanding to sell Spyker's assets to UK holding company CPP Global Holdings, which is owned by Antonov.

Volkswagen pickup hits European market

(February 23, 2011) The Volkswagen Amarok, a mid-sized pickup truck, has been unveiled in Europe. The all-new pickup, under development for several years, was first introduced in Argentina just over a year ago in December 2009.

The truck — which will be sold in South and Central America, Europe, Russia, South Africa and Australia — resembles a Ford Explorer SportTrac from the side in double cab mode with the front end of a Volkswagen Touareg sport utility. It will not be sold in North America, at least at the outset.

Saab 9-3 gets more horsepower, styling tweaks inside and out for 2012

Ford recalling 144,000 F-150 pickups for airbag problem

(February 23, 2011) Ford is recalling F-150 pick-ups for a problem with the airbag. The Detroit News reported today that Ford is recalling 144,000 F-150s from the 2005-06 model years — 135,000 in the US and 9,000 units in Canada. Affected models were all made at Ford’s Norfolk plant between November 2004 and June 2005.
