(August 14, 2010) Infiniti on Friday announced its rumored specialty-performance vehicle collection, the Infiniti Performance Line. The first production vehicle from this group, the 348-horsepower 2011 Infiniti Performance Line G Coupe, debuts today at an exclusive event at the 60th annual Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

California legislature seeks to reopen HOV lanes for electrics and hybrids

(August 13, 2010) A report in the Sacramento Business Journal notes that the California Senate approved legislation that would allow advanced technology vehicles, such as BEVs, plug-in hybrids and hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles, access to carpool lanes during commute hours until 2015.

Authored by Senator Leland Yee of San Francisco, SB 535 passed on a bipartisan vote of 28-3 in an effort to help jump-start sales of green vehicles.

Infiniti to introduce new 2011 G25

(August 13, 2010) PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — Infiniti announced a new addition to the popular Infiniti G Line, the G25 Sedan, which features a 2.5-liter V6 engine. It is scheduled to go on sale at Infiniti retailers nationwide in September, joining the Infiniti G37 Sedan, G37 Coupe and G37 Convertible.

Akerson to replace Whitacre as General Motors CEO

(August 12, 2010) DETROIT — General Motors annopunced today that Edward E. Whitacre, Jr.  will step down as chief executive officer on Sept. 1 and as chairman of the board by the end of the year, having successfully led the company’s return to profitability after the most turbulent period in its history.

Earlier today, GM reported its second consecutive quarter of profits after a string of losses dating back to 2007.

GM posts quarterly profit of $1.3 billion

(August 12, 2010) DETROIT — General Motors, poised to launch the largest public stock offering in U.S. history this year, today reported a $1.3 billion net profit for the second quarter resulting in earnings per share on a diluted basis of $2.55. 

Second-quarter revenue was $33.2 billion, up 44 percent from $23 billion in second quarter 2009. First-quarter revenues were $31.5 billion.

Lamborghini considering four-door sedan

(August 12, 2010) Lamborghini, maker of the $450,000 Murcielago SuperVeloce sports car, would consider adding a four-door sedan to its portfolio of two-seater models to attract customers amid declining sales, Bloomberg News reported Wednesday.

“A third model would fit Lamborghini very well,” CEO Stephan Winkelmann, 45, said in an interview. “A four-door car would be a very feasible approach.”

New Nissan Juke to start under $19,000

(August 11, 2010) The funky styled compact 2011 Nissan Juke will start at under $19,000, Nissan announced today. The MSRP for the base model excluding destintion charge has been set at  $18,960 in the U.S.

That price is for the S trim with CVT automatic. The all-new Juke goes on sale in October at Nissan dealers nationwide. Prices rise through eight models to $24,550 for an alll-wheel drive SL model.
