Volvo information system helps recover stolen truck, cargo

(February 8, 2011) For the first time, Volvo Trucks’ Dynafleet web-based transport information system has helped the police to recover a stolen truck and its cargo. Tracking the vehicle using Dynafleet online, every step taken by the thieves was identified and addresses were clearly identified.

In this particular case in Brazil, Google maps/satellite view/and GPRS positioning were also very important, aiding the police in the identification of the buildings where the
vehicle and cargo were hidden.

The vehicle was Volvo's VM-MD1 field test truck, which was being operated by the customer Sibra Transportes. The vehicle, loaded with Peugeot car parts, was hijacked in São Paulo at around 9 p.m. on Jan 11. Every step taken by the thieves was identified, from the moment the hijacking took place to the cargo being unloaded and the vehicle concealed.

Google maps/satellite view/and GPRS positioning also played a vital role in helping the police identify the buildings where the vehicle and cargo were hidden.

The vehicle and cargo were recovered and the police are working on arresting the gang.
