Volkswagen delays launch of electric ID7 sedan in U.S.

(May 22, 2024) Volkswagen is delaying the launch of the ID7 electric sedan in the United States and Canada for an unspecified amount of time The German automaker previously said the midsize model would launch in the U.S. in the third quarter, according to Automotive News.

The company's decision to delay sales of the ID7, which is similar in size to the discontinued VW Passat, comes as EV demand slows and Americans continue to migrate out of sedans in favor of crossovers and SUVs.

The midsize sedan market, once among the industry's biggest, continues to lose models, with Subaru planning to drop the Legacy and Chevrolet ending Malibu output, leaving just entries from Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Hyundai and Kia.

"Volkswagen is committed to making market-driven choices while listening to our customers," the automaker said in a statement Wednesday. "As market dynamics continue to change, Volkswagen is delaying the introduction of the ID7 sedan in the U.S. and Canada."
