Mecum returns to Pomona with 600 muscle cars, classics

(January 27, 2018) Mecum Auctions is set to return to the Fairplex in Pomona, Calif., Feb. 16-17 for its Los Angeles 2018 auction, which will feature an estimated 600 American muscle cars, classics, Corvettes, exotics, Hot Rods, Resto Mods and more. Headlining the auction are a pair of investment-grade, ultra-high-performance sports cars bearing names straight out of motorsports history.

The 2018 Bugatti Chiron, named after racing great Louis Chiron, is one of just 70 produced for 2018, and one of only 500 to be produced in total during the model’s planned seven-year run that began in 2016.

A 2015 McLaren 650S Spider — an Elite Pearl White car accentuated by a slew of performance and cosmetic upgrades—will join the Bugatti as a main-attraction offering.

Also in the lineup for Mecum Los Angeles 2018, the Donald O. Preston Collection of 10 vehicles will be offered entirely at no reserve. Within the collection are three versions of Chevrolet’s ‘50s classic, the Bel Air, in convertible, hardtop and Beauvillle Wagon form, as well as a 1970 Pontiac Trans Am and a 1956 Oldsmobile 88.

1959 Chevrolet Corvette

Other auction consignments include a 4-speed 1959 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible and a Roman Red-on-red 1962 Chevrolet Impala Super Sport Hardtop restored first in 1991 and again in 2001. Never shown, the rare Super Sport features its original dual-quad 409/409 HP engine with an Isky camshaft, backed by its original T-10 aluminum 4-speed transmission and a Positraction rear end with 3.36:1 gears.

The selection of consignments for Mecum Los Angeles 2018 will showcase the variety of offerings Mecum prides itself on bringing to each event. As an “every-man’s auction company,” Mecum will offer a broad selection of vehicles from entry-level to museum-grade.

Mecum Los Angeles 2018 is open to buyers, sellers and spectators. Bidder registration is available online in advance for $100, $200 after Feb. 15, and includes admission for two to both auction days. General admission tickets are available in advance online for $20 per person, per day, and for $30 at the door and online after Feb. 15; children 12 and younger receive complimentary admission.
