Mecum Auctions returns to Indianapolis for Indy Fall Special, Oct. 3-5
1,000 classic and collector vehicles
to be auctioned at state fairgrounds
(September 30, 2024) Mecum Auctions will hold its Indy Fall Special classic and collector car auction Oct. 3-5 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis, and the second-annual event is expected to feature 1,000 vehicles on offer ranging from classic muscle and sports cars to Hot Rods, exotics, antique autos and more.
Exhibitors, food vendors and a live art demonstration by famed artist Makoto Endo, whose unique process includes flinging paint at his canvas using chopsticks, will take part in the live auction event as well, and portions of the auction action will be presented live on MotorTrendTV and Max.

The 1970 Porsche 917K (917-022), Steve McQueen’s hero car from “Le Mans,” to be offered at Mecum Kissimmee 2025 will also be on display for the duration of the Indy Fall Special event.
Following a successful launch in 2023, the Indy Fall Special will return for another anticipated success this October, and the consignment list is flush with attractive options including consignments from 29 different states. From a headlining 1968 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet Fastback, purported to be one of just 11 built at the Holman & Moody-Stroppe Shop, and an unrestored factory 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle LS6 Convertible that has been in the care of one family since new, to private collections containing everything from semi-trucks to vintage Cadillacs and more, the Fall Special lineup boasts excellent variety, quality and desirability.

Even a screen-used 1991 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor driven by actor Dan Akroyd in the film “Blues Brothers 2000” will be among the vehicles to cross the block in Indianapolis.
Private collection offerings are another of the featured attractions slated for the Fall Special, including The Frank Karabetsos Collection of five no-reserve vehicles encompassing two Oldsmobile 98s and a 1989 Ferrari Testarossa, as well as The Ray Oliver Collection of more than 30 varied vehicles, most to be offered at no reserve, like his 1970 Dodge Superbee Coupe, vintage and modern Shelbys and Mustangs, a 1966 Corvette Convertible (Lot S32) and more.
Uniquely, the Fall Special auction will also present two collections that consist mainly of vintage semi-trucks and trailers: The DeYoung Collection of seven Diamond Ts, four Peterbilts and more, and The Hoekstra Collection, led by a 1962 Mack Model B61.
