Caddy for a Caddie promotion returns to Texas tournament

(March 22, 2011) IRVING, Texas — HP Byron Nelson Championship officials announced today the return of the Caddy for a Caddie promotion, wherein the caddie of this year’s champion at the golf tournament will receive a 2011 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid.

“We are elated to bring Caddy for a Caddie back to the Nelson this year,” said tournament chairman John Beckert. “The dedication of HP and Cadillac to enhancing the tournament for players, caddies and fans is continually first-class, and we’re proud to call them partners.”

“This is a way to recognize the dedication and support of some of the hardest-working people on the PGA Tour, and to continue to honor the legacy of a former caddie and icon, Byron Nelson,” said Gary Elliott, vice president of corporate marketing for HP.

The tournament will be played Memorial Day weekend, May 23-29, at the Four Seasons Resort Las Colinas in Irving. Byron Nelson, for whom the tournament is named, caddied in his youth before starting a hall-of-fame golf career.

The tournament last held the Caddy for Caddie promotion in 2008. A Cadillac XLR-V was awarded to Tony Navarro when Adam Scott sunk a 48-foot birdie putt on the third playoff hole of the championship that year.

The Escalade will be delivered to the caddie’s residence following the tournament.
