2020-21 GMC Savana and Chevy Express recalled for fire risk

(March 31, 2021) WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Transportation (NHTSA) urged owners of 2020 and 2021 GMC Savana and Chevrolet Express to park their vehicles outside and away from homes, structures, and other flammable materials such as vegetation, until their vehicles have been repaired, due to a new recall for the risk of fire.

GM issued a safety recall today for certain Model Year 2020 and 2021 Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana vehicles with 6.6L gas engines. If a short circuit does occur, drivers may get a low battery voltage warning, the battery may die, or a fire may occur in the engine compartment.

Until these recalled vehicles have been repaired, the safest place to park them is outside and away from homes and other structures, NHTSA said.

Vehicle owners can visit NHTSA.gov/recalls and enter their 17-digit vehicle identification number to see if their vehicle is under recall. If it is, vehicle owners should call their nearest dealership immediately to schedule a free repair.
