Motor vehicle deaths down slightly in first half of 2017

(August 15, 2017) ITASCA, Ill. — Preliminary estimates from the National Safety Council indicate motor vehicle deaths in the first six months of 2017 are 1 percent lower than they were during the same six-month period in 2016. However, the country is fresh off the steepest estimated two-year increase in motor vehicle deaths since 1964, and it is too early to conclude whether the upward trend is over.

Thermal Club to display rare BMW M1 Procar at Monterey event

(August 9, 2017) PALM DESERT, Calif.  — The Thermal Club has announced it will display the world’s only street-legal BMW M1 Procar and offer a virtual reality track experience at the 26th Annual McCall’s Motorworks Revival in Monterey on Aug. 16.

The 1979 BMW M1 Procar was restored by renowned racer Bruce Canepa. BMW produced 40 Procars, which raced in a championship support series during the 1979 and 1980 Formula One seasons.

Pump prices climb as gasoline demand hits weekly record

(August 8, 2017) Today’s national average price for regular unleaded gasoline across the country is $2.35 per gallon, three cents more than last week, nine cents more than one month ago, and 23 cents more than at the same time last year, according to weekly statistics provided by AAA.

The latest Energy Information Administration (EIA) report shows gasoline demand reached a new weekly record of 9.842 million barrels a day.

(August 3, 2017) A recently released list of the world’s Top 100 most valuable brands from BrandZ, an international firm that complies such lists from a database of information, contains the usual automotive suspects.

Toyota checks in at No. 30, BMW at 35, Mercedes-Benz at 40, Ford at 83, and Honda at 91 on the ranking of most valuable global brands. Not making the Top 100 overall companies but checking in at spots 6-8 on a side list of the Top 10 automotive brands are Nissan, Audi, and Tesla.
