Family vacations still popular priority for millions of Americans

(February 9, 2017) ORLANDO, Fla.  — Now is the time when millions of families across the country are starting to plan getaways for spring break, summer vacation and long holiday weekends throughout the year. According to a recent AAA survey, more than one-third of Americans (35 percent) are planning to take a vacation of 50 miles or more away from home involving two or more immediate family members this year.

The overall volume of travelers remains unchanged from last year, indicating that Americans continue to prioritize traveling as a family.

Comparing Honda Clarity and Toyota Mirai fuel cell sedans

(February 8, 2017) A new comparison of the 2017 Toyota Mirai and 2017 Honda Clarity FCVs shows that the two vehicles are strikingly similar in terms of power output, performance, and weight. The only major difference between the two vehicles is the EPA estimated driving range, with the Honda offering about 50 miles more range than the Toyota.

"I don't think the similarity of the specs for the Mirai and the Clarity Fuel Cell is coincidental," says Tom Blackman, director of Olathe Toyota Parts Center, which helped to create this comparison.

Gas prices remain stable despite record low demand

(February 7, 2017) The national average price of regular unleaded gasoline remained relatively stable over the past week, settling at today’s price of $2.27 per gallon. Although today’s average remains flat compared to one week ago, drivers are paying 10 cents less per gallon month-over-month, and 52 cents more per gallon year-over-year, according to weekly statistics by AAA.

Pump prices have been pressured higher overall due to cuts in oil production globally, but increased U.S. production and low demand has led to a leveling out of prices over the last couple of weeks.

Tahoe and Suburban owners’ use of OnStar increases 260 percent

Edmunds: Automotive lease volume reaches record high in 2016

(February 1, 2017) SANTA MONICA, Calif. — Automotive lease volume reached an all-time record level in 2016 of 4.3 million vehicles, according to the latest Lease Market Report from Edmunds. Over the past five years lease volume grew by 91 percent and in 2016 accounted for 31 percent of all new vehicle sales, up from 29 percent of sales in 2015.

New-car transaction prices continue to climb; closing in on $35,000

(February 1, 2017) IRVINE, Calif. — The analysts at Kelley Blue Book kbb.com today reported the estimated average transaction price (ATP) for light vehicles in the United States was $34,968 in January. New-car prices have increased by $1,123 (up 3.3 percent) from January 2016, while falling $453 (down 1.3 percent) from last month.

"Industry transaction prices remain at high levels, rising more than 3 percent this month," said Tim Fleming, analyst for Kelley Blue Book.
