Trying to nail down gas guzzler taxes — it's not that easy

(July 22, 2012) In working on one of my many assignments, I've been trying to nail down a list of gas guzzlers and the exact dollar amount each is accessed for the Gas Guzzler Tax. This sounds relatively simple, doesn't it? Not so much.

NADAguides 'Must Consider' summer purchase list includes two Kias

(July 18, 2012) COSTA MESA, Calif. — NADAguides has announced its "Must Consider" list of five cars if you are buying new this summer. Two Kia models and a Buick, Toyota and Subaru made the list.

On the list that NADAguides says need to be considered are the 2012 Buick Verano sedan convenience group, the 2012 Kia Optima sedan 2.4-liter automatic LX, the 2012 Kia Sportage AWD EX, the 2012 Subaru Impreza Wagon 2.0i Sport Limited, and the 2012 Toyota Matrix Wagon FWD.

Study: Three-in-five workers experience road rage on commutes

(July 18, 2012) CHICAGO — A new study from CareerBuilder shows workers may have more than heavy traffic to contend with on their way to work. Fifty-eight percent of workers who drive to work said they experience road rage at times while traveling to and from the office, similar to findings in 2006 when the study was last conducted. 

Analysis and poll finds consumers want new 54.5 mpg standard

(July 16, 2012) WASHINGTON — A new analysis from the Consumer Federation of America (CFA) shows that passenger vehicle fuel economy and emissions standards, to be finalized this summer, align with consumer demands and needs.

The report examines historical and current day mileage and pricing data as well as new polling data to determine what consumers want and need, whether or not the auto industry can deliver on those needs, and whether or not fuel economy improvements will be cost prohibitive.

Acura NSX, BMW i8 are 2012 Concept Vehicle of the Year winners

(July 12, 2012) The winners of the 11th annual North American Concept Vehicle of the Year Awards were announced today. The awards recognize those vehicles most likely to shape the future of the automobile industry. This year, more than two dozen jurors participated in a selection process that involved 34 vehicles, each introduced to North America during this season's auto shows in Los Angeles, Detroit, Chicago, Toronto, and New York.

Infiniti IPL G Coupe ranked top high-performance car by Total Car Score

(July 12, 2012) LOS ANGELES — Total Car Score today issued its list of the Top 10 High-Performance Cars for 2012. The top scoring car — perhaps a bit of a surprise — is the Infiniti IPL G Coupe. Surprising because it beat out the BMW M3, Cadillac CTS-V and the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG.

Average fuel economy drops for third straight month

(July 10, 2012) SANTA MONICA, Calif. — TrueCar.com today provided actual fuel economy numbers from June light vehicle auto sales that indicate TrueMPG increased to 23.0 mpg in June 2012 compared to 21.6 mpg in June 2011, and decreased from May 2012 at 23.2 mpg. Just four years ago, in May 2008, TrueMPG was 21.2 mpg.

Chrysler takes issue with Swedish magazine's Grand Cherokee test

(July 9, 2012) AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — Chrysler Group engineers are investigating a Swedish magazine’s evaluation of the 2012 Grand Cherokee. During the evaluation, the publication was able to capture images of a Grand Cherokee on two wheels as it performed an extreme maneuver in an overloaded condition.
