Total Car Score lists 10 best looking cars of all time

(August 16, 2012) LOS ANGELES — Total Car Score is celebrating the art of the automobile by taking a look back at the top10 best-looking cars of all time. Total Car Score issues its ranking as automotive enthusiasts and the industry's attention focus on the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, the premier event for historic and exotic automobiles taking place on Aug. 19.

This weekend will also see the country's largest collection of classic American iron gather for the Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit.

Unlike clearly defined vehicle specifications such as horsepower, top speed or zero-to-60 acceleration, Total Car Score's "best-looking" list is a highly subjective ranking that can't be conclusively validated. However, the 10 cars featured here (listed in chronological order) all boast signature contours that continue to influence the design of today's cars.

"Ask 10 people to name the best-looking car of all time and you'll likely get 10 different answers," said Karl Brauer, Editor in Chief of Total Car Score. "But I'd suggest these 10 cars would be among the most popular answers given. Furthermore, all 10 of these cars have modern-day successors that clearly trace their appearance back to these timeless designs."

Brauer and the editorial team at Total Car Score noted all of the cars on the best-looking list were produced within a 20-year time frame, suggesting a heightened sense of exterior design evolution during this period in the history of the automobile. While classic Ferraris occupy two of the 10 slots there is a wide range of brands represented. These include Aston Martin, Chevrolet, Dodge, Ford, Jaguar, Lamborghini, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche.

"If you haven't seen any of these cars in person you owe it to yourself to get to a world-class car show, such as the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance or Woodward Dream Cruise, to fully appreciate these beautiful machines," said Brauer.
