GasBuddy reveals best coffee stops ahead of National Coffee Day

(September 28, 2017) BOSTON — In honor of National Coffee Day on Sept 29, GasBuddy, a smartphone app connecting more than 70 million drivers with their Perfect Pit Stop, has revealed which gas station brands have the highest-rated coffee in each state, making them the best bet when you need a pick-me-up while on the road.

According to the recent GasBuddy footfall report, more than half (56 percent) of Americans who have visited a convenience store in the past three months feel that the convenience stores make coffee drinks as good as coffeehouses.

“Americans love coffee! Our consumption has increased over the years with premium and gourmet coffees serving as the catalyst,” said Frank Beard, convenience store and retail trends analyst at GasBuddy.

“It is evident that gas station convenience stores are taking market share from QSRs and cafes by creating a true coffee experience.”

GasBuddy data scientists reviewed nearly 2 million user reviews covering more than 140,000 retail locations where gasoline is sold, and found that 51 percent of GasBuddies gave positive ratings in the coffee category. Buc-ee’s captured the highest ratings in the nation as being the best gas station c-store for a "cup of Joe." On the state level, Tulsa, Okla.-based QuikTrip captured the top spot in seven states; Wawa came in second with six states, followed by Framingham, Mass.-based Cumberland Farms with five states in the Northeast.

According to Technomic, the hot beverages category is responsible for $61.5 billion in sales at convenience stores, 11 percent of the overall pie. It is projected that total hot-beverage sales will continue to increase (2.8 percent) through 2018.

Consumers can review the c-store and their coffee directly on the free GasBuddy app.
