Eight more vehicles qualify for IIHS awards

Electrified Genesis GV70

(September 14, 2024) Eight vehicles from five manufacturers earn accolades in the latest batch of ratings issued by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The 2024 Genesis Electrified GV70, 2025 Genesis GV70, 2025 Honda Civic sedan, 2024 Subaru Solterra and 2025 Toyota Camry earn the higher-tier Top Safety Pick+ award, while the 2025 Honda Civic hatchback, 2025 Mini Countryman and 2024 Subaru WRX earn the lower-tier Top Safety Pick.

The awards for the two Genesis vehicles apply only to models built after April 2024, when improvements were made to the rear seat belts and rear seat design.

The new winners bring the total number of vehicles earning this year’s Top Safety Pick+ award to 38 and the number earning Top Safety Pick to 53.

To qualify for either award in 2024, vehicles need good ratings in the small overlap front and updated side tests, an acceptable or good rating in the pedestrian front crash prevention evaluation and acceptable- or good-rated headlights across all trim levels. In addition, a good rating in the original moderate overlap front test is enough to qualify for Top Safety Pick, but a good or acceptable rating in the updated test is needed for the “plus.”

Three recently tested vehicles, the 2024 Buick Envista, 2024 Chevrolet Trax and 2024 Kia Seltos, do not qualify for awards. All three fall short in the updated side test and in the headlight requirement, and the Trax misses the mark in the pedestrian test.

Two IIHS evaluations, seat belt reminders and LATCH ease of use, are not part of the award criteria but are included in the table below. Consumers may wish to factor them into their purchase decisions.
