(August 13, 2023) The off-road craze is heating up with a growing supply of go-anywhere vehicles including several full-sized pickup trucks. A prime example is the vehicle we have been driving — the GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X AEV. Other competing off-road pickups include he Ford F-150 Raptor, Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 and the Ram TRX. While the AT4X does not get the horsepower of the over-the-top TRX or the Raptor, it has an excellent balance of off-road bits and pieces and horsepower and torque ratings.

(August 6, 2023) "Electric" and "hybrid" are the favorite automotive buzzwords these days. But getting equal billing — astonishingly? — is a word 180 degrees opposite the green monikers — off-road. Manufacturers are clamoring to create off-road vehicles even if off-road does not compute with electric, with the possible exception of the six-figure four-and-one-half ton GMC Hummer EV.

(July 30, 2023) The compact crossover SUV segment — both luxury and mainstream — has been on fire in recent years accounting for millions of sales. This is good news for Subaru, which has two popular vehicles in that segment — the Forrester and the Crosstrek. And the Crosstrek arrives for 2024 completely redesigned.

(July 16, 2023) Following a nearly 30-year run Toyota retired its large-sized sedan the Avalon last year after the 2022 model run. Not surprising since Americans have had an insatiable love affair with trucks and SUVs with sedans of all sizes taking the brunt of their popularity. Yet there's still a few sedans — Honda Accord, Toyota Camry and Corolla as example have rather held their ground amongst the stampede and don't look to be sent out to pasture anytime soon.

(July 16, 2023) The compact Lexus NX crossover arrived in 2015 filling the segment vacated by the popular RX in the Lexus lineup. The RX was of compact size when it was introduced in 1998, but has deserted the segment through five iterations, growing into a mid-sized luxury SUV.

(July 9, 2023) All-new for 2024 the Chevrolet Trax — the brand's new entry-level model now that the Spark has been discontinued — is larger, much better looking inside and out, less expensive and surprisingly a bit larger than the Trailblazer, Chevy's other small compact SUV. The previous Trax ended production after the 2022 model year, and there is no 2023 Trax model rather just jumping to 2024 for the Korean built sub-compact crossover.

(July 9, 2023) The spacious near-midsize Volkswagen Tiguan has an European flair with an engaging driving demeanor, rewarding handling, and conservative, but attractive styling inside and out. The dashboard design might seem rather austere compared to some of its Japanese and Korean competition, but Volkswagen has taken it up a notch with the '23 Tiguan and it comes off very pleasingly especially with the compelling10-inch digital gauge cluster.

(July 4, 2023) For 2023 Honda introduces an all-new 6th generation CR-V crossover utility vehicle. After first being launched back in 1997 the CR-V is now more than a quarter century old and a perennial best-seller. Over the years, the small crossover segment continues to be one of the fastest growing and the CR-V maintains its reign as the best seller over those 25 years.

A terrific new Lexus SUV
— if it just wasn't an EV

(July 2, 2023) Lexus has been in the gas-electric hybrid business for almost two decades and now for 2023 the first pure-electric vehicle the RX has arrived. It's built on the same platform as the Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra twins introduced last year, and the my eye they look quite similar, that is until a good look at the window sticker where the Lexus is a near $20,000 bumping price.
