By Jim Prueter

(January 1, 2024) While marching to the beat of its own drummer since it debuted some 30 years ago, Lexus still marches forward taking on the German luxury giants of Mercedes, Audi and BMW with its core values of luxury, quality and style at a better price.

(December 31, 2023) Toyota has sold the mid-sized Highlander three-row family SUV for years and it has become one of the most popular crossovers in North America — now in its fourth generation. It's one of the most practical and easiest to drive vehicles in the populated three-row segment. However, if maximum cargo and passenger space is one of your concerns in choosing your next vehicle you will have to move up to the much larger Sequoia or seek another brand.

(December 24, 2023) Mazda offers choices. Good choices, because Mazda builds excellent SUV crossovers. This gives customers the option of better fillingtheir needs and pocketbook when shopping Mazda. For instance, in 2020 Mazda introduced the subcompact CX-30 in direct competition to the popular CX-3. Last year, Mazda offered yet another choice for the faithful or for prospective Mazda buyers — the nearly midsized two-row CX-50. It lives along side the similarly sized highly rated CX-5, which, by the way, is Mazda's best seller in the U.S.

(December 17, 2023) In a prior life, the Buick Envista that debuts as a 2024 model might have been dubbed a hatchback coupe. But in keeping with company’s vehicle E-style nomenclature Buick prefers to call it a crossover SUV,  joining compacts Envision and Encore GX and the mid-size Enclave in the company’s North American portfolio.

Polestar 2 Dual Motor Performance Plus — An EV sleeper

By David Boldt
MyCarData

(December 17, 2023) Back in the day (that would be my day) it was known as a sleeper. Built within the envelope of an anonymous sedan, its owner/builder would cram as much performance under the hood as the engine compartment could accommodate, but instead of advertising the installation with as many fire-breathing cosmetics as the cash-strapped owner could gather, he left it visually stock.

(December 15, 2023) After being wowed by the completely redesigned Nissan Pathfinder when introduced for the 2022 model year, the Japanese automaker introduced a rugged off-road edition "Rock Creek" for 2023, and just this week we were able to test the 2024 edition that brings real differences to the game, not just with a rugged appearance.

Ford Mustang GT — Redesigned 7th-generation may be last of a breed

By Jim Prueter

(December 10, 2023) Just recently, Ford introduced an all-new seventh generation Ford Mustang as a 2024 model. To say I'm a bit surprised isn't much of a reach. Against all odds and in the face of a consumer onslaught of buying trucks, SUVs, and fully electric vehicles, the top brass in Dearborn remains convinced that a goodly number of Americans still aspire to what a Mustang offers — a car that has looks to die for, tire shredding high-performance, mellifluous exhaust notes that would be the preferred headphone soundtrack when getting an MRI, and all at a price tag that won't necessitate a second job.

Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe bridges trail between gas and electric

(December 10, 2023) Jeep will soon introduce production versions of the all-electric Wagoneer S and Recon concepts.  However, I suspect there are more than a few Jeep traditionalists who are open to electrification, but given the difficulty in finding plugs en-route, aren’t quite ready to go all-in.  For them, the plug-in 2024 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe bridges the trail between gas and electric.

Ford F-150 Raptor R makes quick work of Thanksgiving chores

(December 3, 2023) I had plans for the Thanksgiving holiday.  After watching The Parade, we’d drive sixty miles to my parents’ and enjoy some turkey.  We planned to catch the new Priscilla movie, do a little shopping, and drop off a box of books for donation downtown.  There would be no pulling RVs, tackling mountain trails, nor out-running exotic sports cars.  And yet, when I checked the schedule, my ride would do all of that and then some.  Yep, I’m chasing fat bird in a Ford F-150 Raptor…R.

Lincoln Navigator Reserve strives to earn its six-figure window sticker

(November 26, 2023) I’m going to do something I’ve never done before — give you the price tag right up front:  $107,390.  That’s for a regular length 2023 Lincoln Navigator with the Reserve package.  That’s pretty heady pricing against the Cadillac Escalade, Mercedes-Benz GLS, Jeep Grand Wagoneer, and Lexus LX, but is it worth it?  Let’s find out.
