(October 27, 2024) It seems the popularity of the compact CX-5 crossover can't be diminished. Return customers as well as new-to-Mazda buyers continue to make it the company's best seller despite an onslaught of new products — including a couple with Mazda name tags — and the fact it has been eight years since a complete redesign in 2017.

(October 13, 2024) The Ford Explorer has been a leading vehicle in the small-to-midsized sport utility vehicle segment — later branded as "crossover" — for nearly 35 years since the first Explorer was introduced in March 1990 and entered showrooms as a 1991 model. Amazingly, the Explorer remains a leader even as the competition has exploded. Sales figures for the first six months of 2024 show just under 105,000 sales, nearly identical to first half 2023 sales.

2025 Volvo S90

PHOENIX — Just three years ago Volvo announced a goal to build and sell only 100% fully electric vehicles by 2030 while phasing out all of its internal combustion engine models including hybrids. Since that time and just last month — September 2024 — Volvo had a change in plans and announced it was walking back its 100% EV agenda and now pledges a 90 to 100% goal that includes EVs and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs). By 2025, Volvo expects 50 to 60% of sales to be electrified.

(October 6, 2024) The Mazda CX-50 entered showrooms more than two years ago as a 2023 model, the first vehicle to come off the  Huntsville, Ala., assembly line at a new manufacturing plant shared with Toyota. Built on a new platform, the CX-50 is aimed at such heavyweights as the Hyundai Tucson, Nissan Rogue and Toyota RAV4. It portrays a more rugged persona than the near-same-size CX-5, a trait that has suddenly become popular inside the industry.

(August 20, 2024) If you are looking for a way to stump drivers from Generation Z (those born between 1997 and 2012), here is a good one. Put them behind the wheel of a manual transmission car and hand them an instruction sheet written in cursive. Odds are they won’t be able to handle it.
