Toyota Prius Prime – Efficient and useful

By Kelly Foss - MyCarData

(February 18, 2022) It's hard to believe that the first Prius came on the market 25 years ago in 1997. The basic premise of the vehicle has remained the same but the current model is light years ahead of the original one. The Prime version of the Prius is a plug-in hybrid model that has a fuel economy rating of 54 city and 133 highway MPG. To get those astronomical highway numbers requires you to plug in the car to fully charge the battery.  During my somewhat rambunctious test driving, I averaged about 66 miles per gallon in a week.

It comes with a new eye-catching exterior design and a modern interior with updated technology and a large tablet-style infotainment screen.

(February 8, 2022) For 2022, Mitsubishi has an all-new Outlander, its fourth generation which thankfully has almost nothing in common with the outgoing Outlander. For the first time in memory, Outlander finally has some attractive styling and elements of substance, along with an extremely good looking interior and intuitive tech features to finally attract attention in the highly competitive compact crossover segment.

(February 6, 2022) When Chevrolet reworked its top-selling Silverado pickup in 2019 it did a lot of good things to keep the Chevy faithful in the fold while attracting new buyers to the brand — upgrading the truck with a new body and frame, creating 20 percent more cargo space, increasing maximum payload capacity by 14 percent, upping max towing capacity by 5 percent, and creating user-friendly gauges and controls.

2022 BMW M440i

INDIANAPOLIS — We all make questionable fashion choices.  For me, it’s an old sweater from high school and a certain pair of shoes even my family can’t stand.  For the 2022 BMW M440i, it might be its giant schnoz that looks menacing, but also suggests it may be sucking a sour tart.  Hopefully a little time will make all of these flourishes seem fashion forward and not faux paus.  Besides, it’s easy to forgive a little fashion foray when the rest of your action is on-point.

Hyundai Tucson Hybrid — Fuel econony, performance

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

(January 30, 2022) The Hyundai Tucson compact crossover has been a perennial best seller for Hyundai, but it has encountered a difficult time making inroads against such rivals as the Honda CR-V, Nissan Rogue and Toyota RAV4. That may change with the all-new fourth generation Tucson. The 2022 model is larger creating adult-sized passenger space in the second row, it has a striking new exterior design highlighted by a head-turning grille, and it gets significantly more gas mileage with two new hybrid variants.

GMC Sierra Limited Denali — A stopgap until the 'real' 2022 arrives

(January 23, 2022) If you don't get it right the first time, the best course of action is to step back, re-evaluate and make improvements. Then start again with a fresh set of ideas. That's what the designers and engineers at GMC did with the Sierra. The latest-generation Sierra was introduced in 2019, but customers found its design and technology fell short of the Ram pickup, and even the Ford F-150 before Ford's all-new 2021 truck arrived.

2022 Lexus GX Black Line

PHOENIX — The 2022 Lexus GX SUV is a throwback vehicle can be traced back some two decades, all the way to 2002; the generation tested here dates back to 2009. Since that time, the GX has received very modest tweaks, getting the brand’s identifying spindle grille in 2013, and modest changes for 2020 such as an updated spindle grille, triple beam LED headlamps, the addition of two rear USB ports, a new exterior color and new interior trim choices.

Jeep Grand Cherokee — New and vastly improved

(January 16, 2021) Although it has grown old in a sea of new, tech-infused mid-sized sport utility vehicles, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has continued to sell quite well. Old in terms of the automotive industry is more than five years, and the outgoing Grand Cherokee has gone 11 long years without a complete redesign. For that reason, the two-row fourth-generation Grand Cherokee has finally been replaced with an all-new redesigned model that catches up with the rest of the segment in design, technology, interior comforts and drivability.
