2017 Kia Niro Hybrid



INDIANAPOLIS — Whoever said a compact fuel-sipping hybrid couldn’t also be cool? Perhaps it needs to be aerodynamic, but it doesn’t have to look like an out-of-control science project merged with some sci-fi future-set flick. An efficient little hybrid could just look like a crossover. And, it could still have all of the technology and utility expected in a cutting-edge ride. At least that’s what Kia designers and engineers apparently thought as they conjured the Niro.

When the latest versions of the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon hit the marketplace as 2015 models it created renewed excitement in the mid-sized truck market that had all but passed away. Since then, Toyota after 10 years completely overhauled its top-selling Tacoma, and a new Honda Ridgeline has earned high praise from auto critics. The Nissan Frontier is due for a total remake in the near future, and there are rumors the Ford Ranger will return to the U.S. in the foreseeable future.

PHOENIX — It’s been just two years since Chevrolet introduced its diminutive four-door, five-passenger crossover to the booming utility vehicle segment. GM has sent the Trax back for a refreshing to its front and rear looks, interior, and has made a few other minor changes in response to increased competition in the segment. The refresh also addressed some of Trax’s initial flaws.

And, you may be looking at your SUV thinking, “I sure wish I had a convertible instead of this hulking beast.” Apparently, the designers at Range Rover had the same thought because they took the compact Evoque crossover and ripped off its top for summer.
