By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

(June 6, 2021) Perhaps the biggest problem Volkswagen faces with its flagship near-luxury mid-sized hatchback Arteon, which has undergone a freshening for 2021, is that few people even know what it is. Over our time behind the wheel of a top trim SEL Premium R-Line we asked a half dozen people what they thought of the Arteon, and not one was familiar with the car.

The Volkswagen Golf hatchback for years has offered drivers the opportunity to get behind the wheel of an affordable compact car that dispenses a high level of performance measured by its confidence-inspiring handling and quick steering response — qualities lacking in many family compacts.  At the same time the Golf's ride is surprisingly comfortable and composed, and its useable storage capacity is just right.

2020 VW Atlas Cross Sport

PHOENIX — The mid-sized Atlas Cross Sport is an all-new addition to the Volkswagen lineup for 2020, and a more stylish derivative of the boxier Atlas on which it’s based. For comparison, the Cross Sport is to the Atlas what the Honda Passport is to the Honda Pilot. Other competitors for the Cross Sport are the Ford Edge, Chevrolet Blazer, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Kia Sorento, and Nissan Murano. Outside, while there’s a lot of Atlas in the Cross Sport’s design language, front and rear fascia are different, as are side and rear windows and other small flourishes to the sheetmetal.
