Chevrolet Silverado — Solid improvement

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

Our first look at the all-new Chevrolet Silverado full-sized pickup came last December when it was unveiled to the press a few weeks before the Detroit Auto Show. At first glance, it appeared devoid of styling changes. And then the announcement that it would be powered by a 4.3-liter V-6 or a 5.3-liter or 6.2-liter V-8, the same engine displacements that have been found under the hood for years. It left us wondering, "what was General Motors thinking?"

Chevrolet Cruze Diesel — High efficiency

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

Diesel engines have become more powerful, more refined and more fuel efficient, yet the number of diesel-powered cars in the U.S. remain almost non-existent. People who want the advantages of a diesel engine in their family vehicle have turned to Volkswagen, which for years has held a virtual monopoly on the affordable diesel-car market.

Chevrolet Impala — Return to glory

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

The Chevrolet Impala has been a star of the rental car fleets over the past decade, but that's not the way it was in 1958 when the Impala was first introduced as the Chevrolet "luxury" nameplate bringing a bit of Cadillac panache to the working man. Now Chevrolet returns to those glorious days of yesteryear with the all-new 2014 Impala, once again sharing a platform with the Cadillac – this time with the XTS.

SAN ANTONIO — Our first look at the all-new Chevrolet Silverado full-sized pickup left us scratching our head last December when it was unveiled to the press a few weeks before the Detroit Auto Show. At first glance, it appeared devoid of styling changes. And then came the announcement that it would be motivated by a 4.3-liter V-6 and 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter V-8s, the same engine displacements that have been found under the hood for years. Chevrolet Avalanche — Big man in town

By Al Vinikour

Years ago Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons had a hit record entitled Big Man in Town. This came to mind when I recently tested a 2013 Chevrolet Avalanche. Like many of my relatives it was BIG!

Chevrolet Traverse — Now with a new face

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

Since it hit showrooms in the fall of 2008 as a 2009 model, the large Chevrolet Traverse crossover has sold more than 400,000 copies to families who desire the room of a minivan, but who want the panache of a sport utility vehicle.

While the Traverse was neither the sharpest looking big crossover on the road nor the most attractive inside what it did have was a large, useable cabin; a comfortable driving position; and performance from a large, relatively fuel-efficient V-6 engine.

Chevrolet Spark — A miniature delight

By Jim Meachen and Ted Biederman

Not long ago tiny cars were seldom seen on American roads. U.S. automobile buyers had placed a big "not sold here" sign on the little guys, rejected as too small and too slow to fit into the wide open spaces of America.

But times have changed thanks to ever-increasing gas prices, the need to preserve shrinking family income, and the feverish rush by automakers to raise their corporate mileage to meet government mandates.

2013 Chevrolet Sonic RS

SAN FRANCISCO — If ever I’ve driven a vehicle that was the poster child for shedding a few “grams” and getting back into shape it’s the all-new 2013 Chevrolet Sonic RS. The EPA lists this as a subcompact and it is on the small side. However small though it is the Sonic RS casts a large footprint of excitement — particularly for those behind the wheel.

2013 Chevrolet Malibu Turbo

SAN FRANCISCO — For too many years the midsize sedan segment has been populated by a group of plain-Jane’s that were adequate for the job, but quite honestly a little underwhelming when it came to styling and performance. If complacency was the disease then Chevrolet has found the cure.

2013 Chevrolet Spark

SAN FRANCISCO — Chevy sure hit the nail on the head when it named its first mini car for the U.S. and Canadian markets the Spark. That’s just what it is — a spark plug of energy and driving experience. It’s a sporty four-passenger, five-door hatch and it is the perfect vehicle for city dwellers and first-time buyers.
