2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing

PHOENIX — For years we’ve been hearing rumors of a powerful phantom Cadillac sedan by the name of Blackwing. Of course, we’ve been well acquainted with Cadillac’s CTS-V sedan which has been among the luxury brand’s offerings for several years. That vehicle was discontinued when the Blackwing was finally launched for 2022, available in two flavors: a compact CT4-V and a midsize CT5-V.

2022 Cadillac XT6 Platinum

INDIANAPOLIS — There’s no question the Cadillac Escalade is an incredible SUV, able to move passengers and all their stuff in three rows of splendor.  But, most luxury buyers don’t need a full-size truck capable of pulling a 30-foot RV or coastal yacht.  For them, the 2022 Cadillac XT6 Platinum might be a better choice that still lets them marinate in luxury.

(December 26, 2021) There’s no question that Cadillac utility vehicles — XT4, XT5, XT6 and flagship Escalade — are the brand’s cash cows as consumers flock to them, foregoing traditional sedans. So why has Cadillac just released two new high-performance super sedans designed to take on the powerhouse four-door brutes from BMW and Mercedes? It’s simple – it builds brand awareness and showroom traffic.

Cadillac CT5 — A luxury alternative to the SUV

(August 1, 2021) We know that sedans no longer seem important to a vast majority of vehicle buyers, but we still very much like them including two new sedans in Cadillac’s lineup. Lincoln, the other domestic builder of luxury vehicles, has completely abandoned the segment for a small fleet of four SUVs.

2021 Cadillac CT5-V

MIAMI — A replacement for the aging CTS when it reached showrooms as a 2020 model, Cadillac’s CT5 — previewed at the 2019 New York Auto Show —  made a rather impressive debut by earning the No. 1 ranking for midsize sedans in the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study. For 2021, it is offered in five trims, but this review will concentrate on the 2021 Cadillac CT5 V-Series edition that tops the portfolio at a starting MSRP of $48,700 when the $905 destination and delivery charge is tacked on.

2021 Cadillac Escalade

INDIANAOPLIS — My family has spent way too much time in our house during the last few months — because of COVID, winter temps, and admittedly, general laziness.  We needed to get away, to have a retreat.  With the completely redesigned 2021 Cadillac Escalade in the driveway and just two and a half hours between us in Indianapolis and the Potawatomi Inn at Pokagon State Park, we loaded up to go.

(October 18, 2020) By the end of the year Lincoln will become the only mainstream luxury carmaker without a single sedan in the lineup. Time will tell if this is a good decision — other luxury automakers retain at least a semblance of a sedan presence as SUVs take over the landscape like out of control kudzu. We mention this because Lincoln's arch rival Cadillac is also loading up its lineup with crossovers, but still offers sedan alternatives with the excellent all-new CT4 and CT5. Its customers at least have a choice. And we are for a choice because we like sedans.

2020 Cadillac CT4

INDIANAPOLIS — I once had a rousing debate with a respected General Motors PR rep about why Cadillac could never seem to compete with the Germans.  There have been exceptions:  The original ’76 Seville, ’92 STS, and any number of V-Series among them, but as a whole, Cadillac never quite got there.  And worse, it seemed Cadillac was ashamed of its heritage as it tried to become an American BMW.  Well, there are no more excuses.  The CT4 has finally beat the Germans without selling its soul.
