A Studebaker survivor



Unique styling set the 1949-1953 Studebaker trucks apart from the competition. The so-called 2R5 trucks arrived in 1948 — the first post-war redesign. Robert Bourke, a member of the Loewy Studios design team under contract with Studebaker, was the lead designer. This 1952 example was found in a Texas salvage yard. The '52 model was powered by a 102-horsepower inline six.

2022 GMC Hummer EV comes with 1,000 horsepower

(October 22, 2020) DETROIT — GMC has introduced the 2022 HUMMER EV Edition 1 — a first-of-its kind super truck developed to forge new paths with zero emissions. GM says "It will be the first fully electric addition to GMC’s lineup, driven by next-generation EV propulsion technology that enables unprecedented off-road capability, extraordinary on-road performance and an immersive driving experience designed to put occupants at the center of every moment."

General Motors passes 1 million subscribers to Wi-Fi

(October 21, 2020) DETROIT — In September, General Motors crossed a new milestone as the first automaker with more than 1 million subscribers to its Wi-Fi-enabled data services provided by AT&T. The company initially launched a broad rollout of 4G LTE connectivity across Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac models in the U.S. and Canada starting in 2014, transforming connected car capability and adding in-vehicle Wi-Fi for customers.

GM investing $2 billion to transition Spring Hill plant to build EVs

(October 21, 2020) WARREN, Mich. — General Motors has announced that its Spring Hill, Tenn., assembly plant will begin the transition to become the company’s third vehicle manufacturing site to produce electric vehicles, joining Factory ZERO in Detroit and Hamtramck, Mich., and Orion Assembly in Orion Township, Mich. In addition, the company is confirming investments in five Michigan plants, including the Lansing Delta Township Assembly and Flint Assembly for future crossover and full-size pickup production.

Nissan making Safety Shield 360 standard on 10 models

(October 20, 2020) NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Advanced driver assistance systems can significantly reduce crashes according to leading safety advocates, and inexperienced teen drivers face added crash risks. To help drivers avoid crashes, Nissan will offer Safety Shield 360, a suite of six active safety technologies, as standard equipment on 10 models beginning in 2021.

Chase Auto and Subaru renew private label agreement

(October 20, 2020) Subaru of America and Chase Auto announced today the renewal of their private label agreement, extending Chase’s role as the private label finance provider for the auto manufacturer. Since 2001, Chase Auto has been the private label finance partner for Subaru of America, providing customized retail, lease and commercial services as well as strategic support to more than 630 retailers in the U.S. Through the brand Subaru Motors Finance, Chase has financed nearly four million Subaru drivers.
 

Mullin Automotive Museum to reopen weekends beginning Nov. 6

(October 20, 2020) LOS ANGELES — The Mullin Automotive Museum will reopen to the public on Friday, Nov. 6,  establishing a new schedule of 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday through Sunday. Fans of the museum and new visitors will see Concours “Best of Show” winners such as the 1936 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic, 1938 Hispano-Suiza Dubonnet H6B “Xenia,” and the 1937 Talbot-Lago T150-C-SS Goutte d’Eau; as well as crowd favorites such as the 1994 Bugatti EB 110 Supersport “Le Mans” and the world’s most extensive collection of Bugatti artwork, sculpture, and furniture.
