Volvo Cars to accelerate autonomous technology development

(April 3, 2020) Zenuity, the assisted and autonomous driving software development company, will be split into two parts to maximize the potential of Zenuity’s developments to date. One part is a new stand-alone company, focusing on the development and commercialization of autonomous drive software, and will be owned by Volvo Cars.

The second part will focus on the continued development and commercialization of advanced driver assistance systems and will be integrated into Veoneer, the automotive safety equipment company.

GM and Honda to jointly develop next-generation Honda EVs powered by GM batteries

(April 3, 2020) General Motors and Honda have agreed to jointly develop two all-new electric vehicles for Honda, based on GM’s highly flexible global EV platform powered by proprietary Ultium batteries. The exteriors and interiors of the new EVs will be exclusively designed by Honda, and the platform will be engineered to support Honda’s driving character.

Automobile industry responds to pandemic

(April 3, 2020) As with most industries, COVID-19 is wreaking havoc with the auto industry.  Virtually all plants are on pause, putting many thousands of workers on furlough.  But, as in World War II, automakers represent vast manufacturing, engineering, and philanthropic capabilities that can be tapped for everything from face masks to ventilators and food programs.  Here are examples of automakers doing their part in the current crisis.

Toyota Motor Credit launches creation of Mazda Financial Services

(April 2, 2020) PLANO, Texas — Toyota Motor Credit Corporation (TMCC) announced it has launched a private label business with Mazda North American Operations (MNAO), its first-ever client, through the creation of Mazda Financial Services (MFS). Mazda Financial Services began operations today and offers a suite of automotive finance, lease, wholesale, dealer banking, and insurance protection products and services to Mazda dealers and customers in the U.S.

Mecum sets first auction for June 23-38 at Indiana State Fairgrounds.

(April 2, 2020) Mecum Auctions has confirmed new dates for Dana Mecum’s 33rd Original Spring Classic in Indianapolis. This year’s dates for Mecum’s flagship car auction event are now June 23-28. The auction will be held at the Indiana State Fairgrounds location as planned. All current consignment positions and bidder registrations will remain active and in place. Consignment and customer service agents are available during normal business hours to assist with vehicle consignments and bidder registrations.

GM making face masks for frontline COVID-19 pandemic workers

(April 1, 2020) DETROIT — As the COVID-19 pandemic spread across the country, it created a critical shortage of face masks. To help protect workers in essential services across the country, GM launched a rapid-response project to produce masks at scale on Friday, March 20. Seven days later, the team had produced their first sample on the new production line. By next week, GM expects to deliver its first 20,000 masks to frontline workers.

How Audi plans to bring 20 all-electric models to market in next five years

(April 1, 2020) Globally, by 2025, Audi is aiming to have 30 electrified models on sale, with 20 of those vehicles fully electric. It is an ambitious plan showing the brand's global commitment for a more electrified and sustainable future. Already in the U.S., Audi has introduced five production models — the Audi Q5 TFSI e, A7 TFSI e and A8 TFSI e plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) as well as the e-tron all-electric SUV and upcoming e-tron Sportback.
