Toyota to start sales of fuel cell buses under the Toyota brand

(October 22, 2016) TOYOTA CITY, Japan ―Toyota will begin selling fuel cell buses under the Toyota brand in early 2017. Having already undergone repeated field tests for practical use, the Bureau of Transportation of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government plans to utilize two of these fuel cell buses on fixed routes.

Nissan completes acquisition of 34 percent stake in Mitsubishi Motors

(October 21, 1016) YOKOHAMA, Japan — Nissan has completed its acquisition of a 34% equity stake in Mitsubishi Motors (MMC) and became its largest shareholder. MMC will also become part of the global Alliance with Nissan and Renault. With the addition of MMC, the Alliance will be in the world’s top three automotive groups by global volumes, with sales of 10 million units in fiscal year 2016.

BMW Group Plant Manaus in Brazil starts motorcycle production

(October 21, 2016) MANAUS, Brazil — BMW Motorrad celebrated a significant expansion of motorcycle production in Brazil today. The company officially started operation of the new BMW Group plant in Manaus, Brazil, the first 100% BMW Group-owned motorcycle production site outside Germany. A total of around 10.5 million euros ($11.44 million) were invested in the new plant.

Ford continues reduction of water usage in vehicle production

(October 21, 2016) DEARBORN, Mich. — Ford is aiming to reduce its use of the world’s most precious resource — water — by nearly three-fourths as it takes its next step toward using zero potable (drinking) water for vehicle manufacturing.

By 2020, Ford aspires to have reduced its water usage per vehicle by 72 percent and will have saved more than 10 billion gallons of water since the turn of the millennium. In layman’s terms, that roughly means for every one gallon of water Ford used in manufacturing in 2000, it aims to use about one liter by 2020.
