Jaguar Land Rover to begin real-world tests of autonomous driving

(July 13, 2016) WHITLEY,UK — Jaguar Land Rover plans to create a fleet of more than 100 research vehicles over the next four years, to develop and test a wide range of Connected and Autonomous Vehicle (CAV) technologies. The first of these research cars will be driven on a new 41-mile test route on motorways and urban roads around Coventry and Solihull later this year.

The initial tests will involve vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communications technologies that will allow cars to talk to each other and roadside signs, overhead gantries and traffic lights.

Hyundai debuts 200-horsepower Elantra Sport

(July 13, 2016) FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif. — Hyundai has unveiled the Sport edition of the 2017 Elantra. The most powerful Elantra model ever, the Sport benefits from a variety of important powertrain, chassis and styling upgrades over the current SE, Eco, and Limited models.

The Elantra Sport is powered by a 1.6 Turbo GDI four-cylinder engine generating more than 200 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque. Drivers may choose between a six-speed manual transmission or seven-speed Dual Clutch Transmission with paddle shifters.

'The Human Bridge' depicts the development of the revolutionary '49 Ford

(July 13, 2016) The 1949 Ford is considered the first "modern car" from Blue Oval. Its development started in 1946 according to a 1949 promotional film from Ford, "The Human Bridge," depicting the building of the car from start to finish.

With the exception of the drivetrain, the car was revolutionary from its design to its suspension, the first all-new automobile design introduced by the Big Three after World War II.

This 1955 Dodge Coronet was spotted in Santa Rosa, N.M., perhaps awaiting some restoration. The Dodge lineup was all-new for 1955 with a longer 120-inch wheelbase and a 212.1-inch overall length. There were six body styled including a wagon and convertible. It could be purchased with either a 3.8-liter inline six or a 4.4-liter V-8.

(July 12, 2016) SAN DIEGO — This summer, nearly 50 years after the original Pininfarina-styled Fiat 124 Spider roadster launched in Turin, Italy, Fiat revives the legendary nameplate. The original Fiat 124 Spider came to the United States in 1968, and 170,000 were sold when it was discontinued in 1983. There are 8,000 still registered in the U.S. today and 40 percent of those are owned by millennials and Gen Xers.

Hyundai and Dept. of Energy extend fuel cell vehicle loan partnership

(July 12, 2016) WASHINGTON — Hyundai and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) are extending their fuel cell vehicle confirmation program, originally from 2013 through 2015, to its second phase, from 2016 through 2017. The program involves Hyundai providing a number of Tucson Fuel Cell CUVs for daily use and confirmation by the DOE using existing hydrogen infrastructure.

This phase of the program will make significant use of a newly-opened hydrogen refueling station in the Washington D.C. region.

Global sales of Cadillac models surge in June

(July 12, 2016) Cadillac sold 25,785 new vehicles globally in June, an increase of 13.8 percent driven by the brand’s two all-new products, the CT6 prestige sedan and XT5 luxury crossover. Strong growth in the brand’s three largest markets fueled the June global sales increases.

U.S. sales increased 5.5 percent for the month, accompanied by gains of 33.7 percent in China and 13.5 percent in Canada. For the year to date, Cadillac sales in China are up 16.2 percent.

'Mini Takes the States' shifts into high gear

(July 12, 2016)  WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J. — Mini Takes the States 2016 (MTTS), the two-week cross-country rally for Mini owners and enthusiasts, kicked off this weekend in Atlanta, Ga. The bi-annual trek will travel track-to-track through America’s open roads, stopping in 14 cities over 15 days with thousands of Minis. Along the way, the group will rally to #DefyHunger with charity partner Feeding America.
