Rating Toyota’s hybrids: Camry vs. Avalon

By Christopher A. Sawyer
The Virtual Driver

(November 29, 2015) Let’s face it, since its launch in 1994, the Camry-based Avalon might as well have been the pace car for the AARP. Though based on a stretched Camry platform, this replacement for the even more “mature” looking Toyota Cressida was a soft riding boulevard cruiser with upright styling and plenty of room for the owner’s walker (or wheelchair) in the trunk. A perennial candidate for the “Last Car You’ll Ever Own” award (think about it), the Avalon was driven by younger (i.e. under 65) folks only when shuttling parents to appointment with their doctors, or when nothing — and I mean nothing, not even a Pontiac Aztek — was left in the rental car lot.

Ford tests new Super Duty cargo boxes with aftermarket equipment

(November 27, 2015) DEARBORN, Mich. — From virtual torture testing in supercomputers to purpose-built potholes, Ford has tough tested the all-new Super Duty — the toughest, smartest, most capable Super Duty ever — to make sure it’s ready for popular aftermarket cargo box equipment that ranges from glass racks to salt spreaders.

For the first time, the Super Duty body uses high-strength, military-grade, aluminum alloy, which is more dent- and ding-resistant than the outgoing steel cargo box and not subject to red rust corrosion.
